You hit the nail on the head with regard to their lack of introspection. The Arab world in particular has an incredible siege mentality, feeding off conflicts in Kashmir, Chechnya, Palestine, etc. Not only because the leadership uses them as scapegoats, but because the people themselves refuse to acknowledge their own failures.

The ideology of islam is allah and mohammed’s complete closed box which includes a religion intertwined with a political system based the sharia law, and an “arabian” cultural life based on the miniscule details of mohammed’s life and actions. To try to reform the political parties of muslim countries shows our own ignorance and lack of understanding of islam. It also has a different logic that leads to dual ethics, one way of relating to those in its fold, and another ethic relating to the “other” or infidel.
