Great article. I recently heard about this website from Rush Limbaugh. I will definitely be visiting it regularly now. The issue of dependence is a sad one. I agree with Noel that America might very well be starting its downfall. What makes it so sad is that so many people know exactly what the problems are. So many people know that liberalism is largely to blame and we have factual, historical evidence of this. But these “so many” people are still a huge minority. They are the ten or so percent of the country who read about politics, history, and economics. The rest of the country is busy watching football games and movies. And we all know how liberal Hollywood is. The thinkers in this country, or world for that matter, need to learn how to captivate more than the talk radio crowd. This has to be possible. There have been tons of blockbuster movies based on true events and cultures. It’s time for a new Hollywood and new media outlets. How about a trilogy about the downfall of the greatest country to ever exist presented with all the explosions and excitement of other blockbuster hits. Or how about a documentary about this wellfare problem? Maybe people who understand economics and politics are just not artistic. Just some thoughts I’ve had about the current state of America.

You are absolutely right. I would take it a step further to comment that in addition to the “victimology” mentality as a result of social dependence, and that the majority of New Orleans are black and are in this group, they are in essence non taxpaying people. The city (primarily) and state governments were not able to respond to Katrina because of the lack of funds. This is evident by the Mayors statement he made directing the population to the superdome. Whereas, he advised them to bring with them, food and water enough for days. The lack of security and the lack of basic necessities were indicative of funding. I also think that when New Orleans drafted that famous “disaster plan” they had to know the associated costs of the infrastructure needed to be able to impliment it. I do not think that the city government funded these infrastructure necesities because 2/3 of their tax base is dependent on the city government social programs to survive. If these individuals actually paid taxes and were productive vs. dependents there would have been enough money to move on these projects.

I also believe that the in-state fights that have been in the press between the mayor of New Orleans and the Govenor of Lousiana is a direct result of the fact that Mayor Nagin endorsed the opposition candidate for Governor that almost beat her. When Mayor Nagin made the public demands to bring the troops in (a decision that lies with the Governor)this gave the opportunity for the Govenor to damage Mayor Nagin politically if he failed to handled the disaster. If this is true then the help (Red Cross turned away)that was witheld caused deaths and would essentially make the Govenor guity of Manslaughter.

Noel, you nailed it. I’m with that sentiment 100%. That’s one of the reasons I’m paying very close attention to Nagin, because he represents to me exactly the kind of person who is willing to step up to the plate and take the fastballs. I’m curious to know how Americans through the muck of race pick the hero of New Orleans who happens to be black. Right now, the clear winner seems to be some ex-carjacker. Not particularly savory.

The degeneration of the black family was certainly accelerated by Johnson’s War on Poverty. This set up the current problems and issues with young blacks. The problem is not helped, is even harmed, by such as J. Jackson and his ilk. Do they rsally not understabd? I guess not.
