Better yet, lets show video of the crime scene where "Tookie" and his ilk have killed inocent people. Lets show graphic scenes in full living color of the blood spattered walls etc. Lets talk to the families that are alive and having to cope with life after such an event. Lets let the kids, wives and families talk about what these killings did to their lives, THEN lets show the rather inane punishment given to poor "Tookie".

the people who would watch executions are the same ones who read "People" magazine, watch inane 'reality' TV and generally lead vicarious lives.

Ah, the blessed silence of a living space with no TV, radio, or newspapers.

I'm in favor of the death penalty. I don't think human nature has changed much: we showed up for public executions in the Middle Ages and they do so now in Iran.

Plus ca change, Rick.

Rick,
After the first few executions, the public would become de-sensitized. The moonbats have greater outrage for Tookie than they did for Nick Berg's beheading. We could make the same argument that abortions should be televised. I think it is more about the sense of the morality of the action to kill. Abortion is innocent life to one, a clump of tissue to others. Death penalty is elimination of guilty human, a waste of opportunity for redemption for others. Only 60 years ago we nuked two cities and were prepared to nuke a third if Japan hadn't surrendered, could you imagine what Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan and Baghdad would look like if 9/11 had happened in 1945? Murder is something we don't tolerate, having the death penalty is like having a powerful military, a tool available to make sure advisories will pay the ultimate price.

In the main I am a supporter of the death penalty. Regardless, this article is about as good as it gets as a commentary. It was humane, balanced, insightful, eloquent and well reasoned. Perhaps most importantly it poses the right questions on this issue to create a more clear moral framework for resolving this issue, as unlikely as that is in reality...
That is what as known as "enlightening people"
Stuff like this makes me glad to be a fellow "Nuthouse" inhabitant, I dare say we need more thinking people like you here...
