The “question” of whether or not incompetence is an impeachable offense is ludicrous...

That may be true, but you have to admit it is a problem. If the country has an incompetent president, be he Republican or Democrat, some method of constraining the damage must be implemented. In the current situation you guys, the Republicans, have all the marbles--if there is to be any oversight or constraint of a runaway presidency the moral obligation rests on your shoulders. Democrats are virtually powerless.

Rick,
It is all about them. They have never been supportive of democracy, unless they are in power. The people voted in November of 2004, what were we Americans given as a celebration of that event? An unprecedented electoral protest by a US Senator. If Berntein wants to investigate, why not investigate the journalistic malfeasance of the Kerry record. In a center right country, a liberal from Massachusetts polled greater than 35%? In a center left country in 1972, Nixon buried McGovern. Is there a single voice in the Democratic Party that would follow the Party of FDR, Truman, Kennedy, Johnson. When de Gaulle told Johnson to get our troops out of France, he remarked, "does that include the ones buried there?" Today, they would have said they were sorry. The moral clarity about the greatness of the United States does not exist with these people. Why give them any credit or due?

It has always been a matter of curiosity (within journalism circles -- the public swallowed it whole) that Bernstein's name was used to co-brand the Nixon exposes. What did Woodward need him for? Obviously, nothing. It had to have been the publisher's decision that more papers would be sold.

Boy, this thing about how the world was with after 9/11 until Bush botched it, is tiring. As long as we are #1 in the world (in prosperity, liberty and military strength), the world is against us much the same way the baseball world is against the Yankees. The world was only with us after 9/11 because we were knocked on our ass. As soon as we got up and started hitting back, the world was against us again. If people like Mr. Bernstein want the world to love us, they must admit that we will have to deliberately weaken ourselves.

Hey, isn't that the direction the opposition party's policies would send us?

There was a made for TV movie once called "My Hundred Yard Run" it was a story of a college second stringer football player who was put into the game when all hope for a win was lost. The young player quite by accident in the last minutes of what was to be a defeat, picked up a fumble in his own endzone, instinctively he ran the fumble past bewildered classmates as well as opposing players. Well needless to say our hero ran the ball in for the winning touchdown, and consequently became the home town hero, subsequent to his dubious success, he married the boss's daughter and became very successful.
Well, the Watergate expose became Mr. Bernstein's "Hundred Yard Run" he became a successful reporter running on the coattails of his partner (Bob Woodward)-who picked up a fumble on his own - in the Nixon debacle only he never married the boss's daughter and has been forever looking for another fumble to recover. Pity that the antagonists of the Nixon era scandal continue to look under the bed for whatever has even the slightest hint of impropriety in government (as long as its Republican) not only to relive their fame but to resurrect it. One has to wonder just what makes a great reporter, or for that matter anything, is is talent and a quest for a greater good or is it plain luck as in a recovered fumble.

After all these years of throwing out charges regarding all things Bush, now with SEVEN, or my God, SEVEN generals harping that "they didn't listen to ME = ME = ME" Yes I did mean to use =, they now feel that they have their moment. Bernstein feels that he can pull off the story of the new century in helping to impeach Bush as he had a hand in trying to impeach Nixon.

All this time liberal A**holes were paving the way for charges that they want to impeach for.

Dan, I Rather not hear, thought that he was going to be the new and improved Woodward&Bernstein to bring down the prez. He failed. Sen.RockbutFAILED wrote to his party that they can "only pull the trigger once" he missed. Now being investigated for his admission that he traveled to distant lands to warn them that Bush is going to war. Ole Walter thought that he could get back in the fray by announcing that we can't win this war. Worked once, didn't work this time. Where'd he go? Hey Walter, oh SAGE of broadcasting news, you miserable old fart!

So now it begins, with Bernstein pronouncements, carefully packaging it for us, why how can it not work! He is that Great Put'ter together of all CLUES, did all but said "Trust Me". Do you know how to say trust me in hebrew? This should be fun to watch. They calculated the time to get the ball rolling, no October Suprise these folks. No way, we know what we are doing, Bush will go down in five months. Then we will be swept up by the masses, demanding that we demoCRAPS must make things right the world.

Settle in with sodas and popcorn if this goes anywhere but I don't believe that it will. Surely the dems recognize that if this is a tit-for-tat they will take a beating at the polls for their childlish behavior. AND talk about us NOT going to vote in '06, damn I'll go to vote and vote as often as I can. Is this the way to spell backfire - "demos lose again!"

There are 2 dominant themes in any liberal/Democrat thesis on the Impeachment of President Bush.

The first is easy - BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrone). The hatred of all things Bush, whether his actions are good or bad, even to the point of blaming him for - the weather?

The second is retribution. Getting even with the Republicans for the Impeachment of President Clinton. When you can finally find a Liberal/Democrat who can discuss this rationally, you will find that they believe the Clinton presidency wouyld have been regarded as one of the most effective in history if he had not had to turn the West Wing into a fortress, defending himself against the onslaught of the vast right wing conspiracy. And in so doing, tainting the legacy of his administration.

The Bush Administration has its faults. It has made many bad choices. And in some eyes, these faults/bad choices are too numerous to name. But if these are the gist of Impeachment, then we have indeed lowered the bar for the Impeachment of a standing president. How will that effect the administration of succeeding administrations? Simple - if your do not control the House, hide and wait, impeachment is on the way!
