The women that inspired Decoration Day and the article and poem were from Columbus, Mississippi (NOT Columbia). Columbus is my hometown, so I know for fact. It must be a typo.

Logan was the 1884 Republican (not the Democratic) nominee for Vice President (James G. Blaine of Maine was the Presidential nominee). Grover Cleveland won the race becoming the first Democratic President since the Civil War.

I GREW UP IN A PART OF ROCKFORD ILLINOIS THAT WAS ONCE KNOW AS CAMP GRANT. I LIVED ON THE CORNER OF LOGAN STREET AND GRANT AVENUE. I LEARNED MORE ABOUT LOGAN FROM YOUR POST THAN I DID IN 15 YEARS OF LIVING ON A STREET NAMED FOR HIM

Great history lesson,Rick,I didn't know anything about this particular man. But,your brief bio of him showed the true character of this man and what the character of this country is all about! It is too bad that more Americans don't know about such men,and the fact that we don't have more like him now.

I too mourn the loss of these brave men on the battlefield of bravery on this Memorial Day. That is why so many are now raising their voices to bring them home and not get drawn in to an unCivil War in Iraq. This fighting thee is like getting between the Hattfields and the McCoys. There is nothing to win in that game.

Today is Memorial Day. Today, we remember the brave and honorable men and women who sacrificed so much to keep our country safe and free. How can we even begin to properly honor their memory, or to say a true

Aw, Rick.... Thanks so much, dear friend, you are too gracious! I hope and pray that your Memorial Day was as wonderful and beautiful as mine.

Many blessings to you and yours (and don't forget the skritchies for the purrs, OK?)

Thank you for the small history lesson about Black Jack Logan. Are there leaders today that can match his talent?
