Something is just not right. We enter the show with Jack and his Dad going for a ride, presumably to be killed by the evil brother Graem's goons.

Problem #1: We learn that this was a ruse set up by the Dad and Graem to fool Jack. Um....were the guards in on the ruse too? They seemed pretty edgy. Did they know they were about to be killed as part of the ruse? Probably not. But then if they had been in on it, they would have known that was a likely scenario. If they weren't in on it, then it's quite likely Jack would be executed. Would the Dad have been OK with being executed too? Last I checked, Jack is just a man. Sure he's been known to resurrect from the dead, but a bullet to the head will still kill him. Doesn't compute!

Problem #2: Under torture, Graem gives it up that he was behind David Palmer's execution, Michelle and Tony, and the whole bio-threat ordeal last season. He later tells his father that he had to give Jack something, and that it's better to do that and live and just do some time, rather than let Jack kill him. EXCUSE ME! You've just confessed to murdering a President and being involved with the murder of many people and an attack on the country and you expect to get "some time?" Yeah, how about life without parole in the most maximum security prison, or the death penalty.

Problem #3: Apparently it's OK with Papa for Graem to have given up the info about the earlier plot, but it's worth killing his son to keep whatever the new plot is secret. What the hell can be worse than they've already done last season? They murdered a president, many federal agents, conspired with a president to attack our country, and gave bioweapons to terrorists. Isn't that about as bad as it gets?

The writers really bungled this one. The new secret plot better be so damn overwhelming to justify Papa offing his son. What is it, like Project Vulcan from Austin Powers. They're going to blow up the earth in the interest of saving our country?

One nice twist at the end was Morris being the new nuclear trigger guy after he leaves to check on his sick brother!

24 is awesome. simply the best writing on tv. yes, you have to suspend belief sometimes but honestly, take a look at the news. I see at least two stories a day minimum that make me go WTF??? because I just can't believe it. and it's OK for Karen to say things like "the constitution isn't a list of suggestions" to someone like the Weasel (tom) because some of we "the People" have certain expectations of politicians (albeit drug induced, smog enhanced, wound-up-like-an-8-day-clock expectations)and we don't have those same expectations of fringe freedom fighters like Jack. I WANT my president saying "no no we can't piss on the Constitution" to me while at the same time "allowing" Jack to be Jack. It may sound ridiculously simple but I want my Prez to be clean and pretty. The Brits have Bond. We have Jack. God Bless America.

For me, the most striking thing about this show was that compassion twice results in disaster.

Phillip is able to kill Graem because he wants just a few moments with his son.

Morris is kidnapped because Chloe releases him to attend his radiation-sick brother before the image comes clear.

I’ve had my suspicions (fears?) about Phillip all along of course. But his killing Graem was totally unexpected.

I disagree completely. I knew he was going to kill Graem the moment he told Jack that he "needed a minute".

I also thought it was interesting how the torture Jack inflicted didn't yield the info Jack was looking for--even though Graem knew the answers.

Nice swath of liberalism there. :)

Is Graem really dead, yet? The team acted as though there had still been some breath in him, as they rushed to attend him. Nobody pulled a sheet over his face.

If Graem is taken to CTU & manages to survive, there's a chance of a really cool new plot twist or two.

My favorite line from the show was when Morris downloaded an "unlicensed application from a hacker site" to "kick start things" (the picture clarification process). When Milo asks if the program will cause them corrupt the file, Morris says something like, "I know these guys. They write really good code, when they're not serving time"...
