I came upon your blog while "blog hopping", and love this post, great blog, but I especially love the personal posts, sharing from the heart always gets to mine. We're closing in on "December" at this house, so making the best of each Thanksgiving and Christmas until it arrives.

You misunderstand the intent and meaning of what I wrote.

Sometimes - choices are made for you. Such as when I have to be on the job at 5:00 AM tomorrow morning to do the job three entities are paying me for.Or in the past ten years before that when I couldn't afford it or, when I worked at the Pig, had to work on both Thanksgiving and the next day.

There was no criticism whatsoever either intended or implied of anyone. Rather I tried to impart a wistfulness about how things used to be. I am very happy so many were able to attend. In my case, I simply couldn't abandon my responsibilities.

Happy Thanksgiving!

that life lives on, 7 families made the trip to Philadelphia, I think spouses and children are not complication, they are a blessing, so if you choose not to be a part of the tradtion, that is a choice you make, it is not the reality of who we are as a family

I remember the old trains before they became 'Metra'. I even remember when you could smoke on the trains, and pretty much anywhere in Union Station. Not that there's anything great about cigarette smoke, but it does seem to set apart that bygone era you are talking about.

Thanks for the memories, Rick. Although growing up remains optional, I did come of age in the friendly confines of Palatine, Illinois, and my parents still live in the same house they bought in '67.

Nice, Rick. Nice. So many folks of our age has his or her 'Barrington Hills' memories, but it takes a pointer, your post, to remind me, for one. I believe I'll have pleasant dreams this evening.
