Rick,
I think you are probably right on McCain being the target here. Leboutillier is a decent enough fellow but the VN POW/MIA's have been a major bee in his bonnet for, well forever. Not saying it's unjustified but McCain really ticked a bunch of people off with the VN normalization/trip back in the nineties. Long memories there.

One nit to pick:

"For some, the war will never end. Only when the last Viet Nam era American passes on will the War in Viet Nam truly be over."

Well, upon re-reading, I guess that quote includes the hippy-dippy protesters as well as the vets. So nothing really to quibble with after all.

funky chicken, are you saying that the families of those who never were returned at "troofers"? How dim can you be.

We lost a home boy in Vietnam. His body was returned five years ago. His family never gave up hope that he would come home although they knew it would be in a flag draped box.

I can tell you from the sister of the Marine who finally came home, that she tried to meet with John McCain about trying to find her brother and at least bring him home to be buried in the family plot. MCCAIN REFUSED TO MEET WITH HER. Sam Johnson finally helped her and six months later, Lt. Marine was brought home.
So a woman who just wants her brother found and returned to his native soil is now a troofer?

Can you explain Sydney Schanberg's searing article? Are you saying he was lying? That all the facts he presented are dishonest?

I see you don't address the fact that McCain also refused to meet with the Border Patrol in his own state. Why? When he was pushing his McCain/Kennedy Shamnesty Act was he afraid to take the heat that he would have felt from the agents on the front lines?

You also seem to have no problem that McCain doesn't want to cut your taxes. Fine. I have an offer for you. Pay mine and you can feel really good about helping another American.

These nutters have been saying this stuff about McCain for many, many years. The hardcore POW/MIA folks were the first "troofers" complete with the con-artist conspiracy mongering and tactics. They prey on traumatized family members of guys whose bodies weren't found....terrible stuff.

A couple of years back, Sydney Schanberg of the Village Voice, a flaming liberal, wrote a take-no-prisoners article about how John Kerry totally deserted the American POWs believed to still be in NVC and Laos. And Schanberg took John McCain to the woodshed along with "reporting for duty" Kerry whose duty seemed to end when he decided to be policial.

I have followed McCain's career with interest for a long time. And in the process I have come with some points that really bother me:

McCain has never had the backing of Sam Johnson, a POW at the Hanoi Hilton at the same time McCain was there and who was a captive for almost two years longer than McCain. Johnson also disagrees with McCain's stand on the use of waterboarding (he would know) and says that our reluctance to use waterboarding, claiming the moral high ground, will not save American lives. The jihadist don't give a damn about our "moral" high ground.

McCain's years of vitriol against John Kerry only to become hard and fast friends after their joint fact finding mission on American POWs still believed to be in Southeast Asia. It was clear that with nomalization with VN, the cousin of John Kerry came out like a fat cat in a good garbage can with the building of the first deep sea port in VN. Any rational thinking person has to ask; if McCain hated Kerry so badly BEFORE their trip to Vietnam, why the change? Did Kerry take back all the things he said in the '70's that caused McCain so much grief? I don't think so.

McCain's stand on IL-legal immigrants and the fact that he has NO SUPPORT from the Tucson sector of the Border Patrol, the largest sector in the U.S. Matter of fact, the BP hates McCain probably due to the fact that McCain refused to meet with the Tucson sector when they reqested it. Seems the Senator was just too damn busy to waste time on those putting their lives on the line every day to keep out the bad guys. You also have to question McCain's dedication to fighting terroism when he had no problem allowing our southern border to remain wide open knowing that all the experts say that the southern border is a entry haven for terrorists. Not to mention McCain's amnesty partnership with one of the biggest socialists of the Democratic Party, Teddy Kennedy.

Then let's take a look at McCain's latest revelation; that he would again vote against the Bush tax cuts. His reasoning? That the spending should be cut, not the taxes on average Americans. I wonder if he realizes that not everyone marries into money like he, and his butt buddy John Kerry, did? Here is an original thought; cut spending AND taxes.

I have been blessed with the ability to be able to read people. Or maybe it is really a curse, depends on what I read about someone and I have felt for a long time that McCain is not the savior he would have us believe, but rather an opportunistic career pol like his buddy, John Kerry, who has used his military service as a slegehammer. If we are to elect someone who has suffered much for his nation, then Sam Johnson should be your man.

I agree with Tommy. It will be Barcak Obama who will be blind-sided as the Clinton team has a book on him the size of a Tokyo White Pages.

McCain will be fine and anything that can be tossed at Sen. McCain will be 'old stuff' and heaved with all the force of a five year old girl in the later stages of consumption.

McCain’s problem is that he’s against torture. It’s not just a problem because torutre works – but because we need to make sure that the scum who hit us on 9/11 suffers."

This comment make me believe it is McCain:

"This book is supported by 10 pages of meticulously-researched end-notes supporting every factual assertion about the candidate’s failure to shoot straight with the American people, and this breach-of-faith’s implications for the Presidency."

It's the "shoot straight" line. McCain, after all, has the "straight talk express". Also, why would the press release emphasize the author's military service if it was Romney?

One note, the author is listed as a "college political science instructor". We can translate that as "screaming liberal".
