Well, it could have been worse. I could have gone with Edwards for second place like I did in Iowa.
The capacity of the American voter to surprise, delight, and madden was on full display last night in Hillary Clinton’s win. It reminds all of us the lessons that socialists, communists, and liberals have never learned; there is an infinite capacity in human beings to defy expectations and act in their own interest without regard for the opinions or diktats of “experts.” The human mind and spirit are still unknowable - despite the efforts of “scientific socialism” to try and convince us to the contrary.
I knew that the Obama boomlet was media inspired and yet I ended up being seduced, stripped, and finally screwed by my own hubris. Perhaps only diehard supporters of Hillary actually believed she could carry it off but that’s no excuse to have joined the Greek chorus in lamenting her imminent demise or Obama’s inevitability. I could have held off until after, you know, people actually like voted.
But no, that would have put me behind the curve - left behind like roadkill on the internet punditry highway. And now, the whole world knows I’m an idiot. Howard Kurtz at the Washington Post linked to my article on Hillary’s exit from the campaign and the quote he uses from my article holds me up to some well deserved ridicule.
Oh well - live and learn and then live some more. There have been times that I have been right in my prognostication - something I rarely crow about. So when the crow comes back to roost on my dinner table in situations like this, there’s only one thing to say:
PLEASE PASS THE GREY POUPON…

I think Hillary won because of the emotion factor.
Remember a few days ago when she was sitting at
a table in I think a resturant and she was in tears
and the press made a big deal about it. That right
there was worth 10,000 votes and I bet my next paycheck
that a large percentage of them were women. It was like
she was on Okra Winfrey or the View. Tears-the
new voting influence. I think she learned that from
Bill.
10:36 am
Here’s an honest man. I’ve been waiting for somebody to admit their mistake - just like that.
Good for you.
10:40 am
The netroots crowd claims the Diebold machines stole the election for Hillary. They point out that she had a significantly higher percentage in the towns counted by Diebold than in the towns counted by hand.
No one seems to ask whether the difference is caused by the machines - or by the fact that the machines are located in the towns with larger populations.
Anyway, the netroots have something to jabber about.
12:07 pm
Juan,
What exactly is the ‘netroots crowd?’ Who makes up this group? I see this term ‘netroots’ thrown around all the time and I still have no idea what it really means.
12:18 pm
While I appreciate you eating crow, it seemed silly to think she should or would drop out.
These races are about getting the most delegates. NH has a paltry amount compared to the rest of the country.
But for some reason everyone has forgotten that. That is the REAL puzzle.
12:27 pm
I saw only one accurate prediction for the Dem side of the NH primary… it came from Fred Thompson.
12:51 pm
Don’t beat your breast: On Monday (January 7), several observers noted busloads of Hillary supporters converging on NH from points East and South. Since pollsters had no access to these trumped-up Hillary-ites, how could they have factored such fraudulent elements into last-minute prognostications?
But MzBill is her own worst enemy. Michigan, South Carolina et al. will be immune to such Begala/Carville stunts. Hillary’s “people of New Hampshire” were co-opted franchisees from neighboring States. Big Media most certainly knows this now, but we expect precisely zero commentary on, 1) MzBill’s subversion of the voting process; and 2) Reporters’ duckspeak record of absolving themselves from all complicity.
Should this debacle embolden the Wife of Bill (aka The WOB) to expand her modus operandi in new realms? Cheating comes cheap… but will Obama shuffle off to Buffalo? Goatherds have means of re-directing flocks.

“I knew that the Obama boomlet was media inspired and yet I ended up being seduced, stripped, and finally screwed by my own hubris.”
Don’t be too tough on yourself. Just about every poll was far outside the margin of error for O’Bomma. I doubt HRC believed she’d pull it out. I’m probably the billionth one to say it, but never, ever count the Clintons out (though I also did for NH).
There was alot of money made and lost on intrade yesterday (which also appeared to follow the conventional wisdom).
Unless Hussein turns into an absolute grassroots juggernaut (where it had seemed to be heading before last night), he’ll be shreaded by the Clinton machine, and failing that, the vast rightwing conspiracy. At least that’s my hope.
1:42 pm
Nothing like a little public humiliation for putting things into perspective. Don’t feel badly, your apology was manly and well said. Jump into the fray again when you feel able. Your blog is really a breath of fresh air at times.
1:49 pm
If she even thinks it might have been the tears, expect to see many more of them. But we really do need her in the race because she will do our dirty work for us. She will dig up every unsavorable thing about Mr. OHB so that the Republican machine won’t have to do anything. Then Republicans won’t have to appear the “racists” for the hit. They already have all they need on Mrs. Clinton, let her work on Obama. Save some of that Republican money.

Netroots is defined here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netroots
However, you have to read between the lines and understand that the examples cited are all on the left of the Democratic Party. For instance, the term was first applied to Howard Dean supporters.

To err is human…
3:39 pm
One thing I’ve always liked/respected about you and Michael Reynolds is that you guys will always admit when you’re wrong. A little self-deprecation and humor goes a long way in my eyes. Politicians could learn a thing or two from you.
12:19 am
Your mea culpa shows class, but are you the only blogger to have gotten this wrong? Unless I missed something you were the only one he called out. I think just about everyone- left, right and center- missed it. The cover of this weeks Weekly Standard- The Fall of the House of Clinton- pretty funny really. Kurtz had nothing about it.
12:06 pm
No kidding, Charlie. The entired WORLD missed the call- but Rick gets the finger pointed at him. He’s a big boy- he can handle it.
6:18 pm
People have made worse mistakes…”President” Dewey, anyone?
I could go on, but I’d just repeat kreiz.
