When it comes to health insurance, the plan that would hurt our economy the least is Hillary Clinton's plan. Everyone would have health insurance. WA, NJ, NY and a few other states who have already tried Obama's proposed health insurance plan of not mandating coverage. These states have driven out of the better insurance companies. When anybody can get health insurance without having to go through medical underwriting, people won't get coverage until they absolutely need it. Usually because of a serious illness. This causes health premiums to sky-rocket. That's because insurance companies are only paying claims for unhealthy people. The plans in these states tend to not be that great either. If everyone has health benefits, the premiums would be less because healthy people would factor in on determining the premium.

Hyperion;
An interesting consequence of that "last 6 months" phenomenon has been reported: it turns out that the one who cost the health system the most are slim non-smokers. Then come overweight non-smokers. Least expensive are smokers.

We have the good manners to die sooner and faster, see, rather than dragging things out to the most expensive extremes!

We will either create a vast unfunded, unpayable debt that will crash the country, or we will ration health care.

When government rations ANYTHING, it gets ugly very quickly, because government is incredibly inefficient and incompetent. The situation surrounding rationed health care - due to the illogical choices that government will make - will quickly come to appear insane.

We have a safety net in place to help the very poor and to stop a free fall from ending in horror. We probably do need a safety net in place for people dealing with medical issues. We ALMOST have such a net in place right now: A trip to the emergency room is always handled. Making this a taxed policy of the government rather than an unfunded mandate on the hospitals would ensure that these hospitals don't have to shut their doors, which is what is beginning to happen.

I don't deserve blood work or an MRI every week. I don't deserve a top of the line drug costing $1000 every month when another drug costing $100 per month is available and is nearly as effective. I don't deserve all these things for free - and any nationalized health care system would cause these things.

[...] The Watcher’s Council has announced its picks for the most outstanding posts of the preceding week. The winning Council post was Right Wing Nut House’s post, “Mandate Me, Baby”. Second place honors went to Wolf Howling for “Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh and McCain Derangement Syndrome”. I voted for the winning post and recommend it. [...]

The destruction will go far deeper than simply rising costs, reduced benefits, and rationing--in fact, it already has.

What, in essence, is "health care," if not the purposeful application of human thought to the amelioration of bodily affliction? But one cannot force a mind; one cannot mandate human thought. "Government run health care" does not and cannot permit a physician's independent thought. Force applied at any point necessarily transmits throughout the system. Your doctor becomes a mere mindless bureaucrat, destroying the essence of the enterprise, and making "health care" decidedly dangerous to your health.

The only "free market solution" is a totally free market--that is, laissez-faire capitalism.

The amount spent on health care is heavily tilted to the the last six months of life. If we could develop a more rational approach to end of life medical "care", the costs would decrease substantially.

Very good article... very true article... the only comment I would have is that if you think pricing on health care would go down if everyone is participating... that's a bunch of BS!! The cost of health care will increase.. We still have 12 million plus illegals who will continue to receive FREE health care!! oh yea... let's have the IRS find these folks and make them pay too!! Maybe they can get them to move back to Mexico also!! Yea...that's the ticket!!
