"Obama has had to run against the scariest political machine currently in existence."

Wow, the Clintons were King and Queen of the Democrat party so long as they were scary towards all things Republican, however now that they're going after their party's other Chosen One, the Democrats are treating the Clintons as if they are King and Queen of the Republican Party.

By the time the November comes around I have to wonder if there will even be a Democrat Party left to go after anything.

I watched video of the whole Brit Hard Talk TV interview with Samantha. It was amazing. She pointed out quite logically that Obama would certainly have to recalibrate all his plans and promises once he was President and finally had daily access to those on the ground and in the intelligence community (which he currently does not have). As a lowly Illinois State Senator when the war was authorized in Washington, Obama didn't have access to "those on the ground and in the intelligence community", then, either. His statements that he has always had the good judgement to be against the war in Iraq and would never have voted for it are silly and disingenuous. He had no security clearances or access to intelligence briefings as did McCain and Hillary. He was getting his news and insight from the same places we all were at that time----the NYT, the Chicago Tribune, and blogs.

Rick, I am of the opinion that the Rezko trial is going to become a big deal for the Obama campaign. With Obama's NAFTA gaffes, his claim to be "open and honest" unlike any candidate before him, and no more "politics as usual", the tale of favor buying, the possibility of money from former Baathist Iraqi being poured into political campaigns from the Illinois governor to perhaps Obama himself, the questionable historic Georgian mansion deal will all play into the question "is Obama what he seems?".
And there are those of us who remember the "Arab (read Muslim) families being rounded up without the benefit of an attorney" ad that ran in Texas is also, eventually, going to surface posing more questions.

Can the Obama camp prevent his dissolution into just another Chicago politician who does things the "Chicago" way?

Once that snowball starts rolling downhill, gaining size and momentum as it rolls, the Obama brick wall may not prove to be strong enough to withstand it.

The worst of it is I'm beginning to think none of this matters to his supporters, which is a bit alarming in itself.

Mr. Obama has run an amazingly effective campaign so far. Better by just about any criterion than that run by Mr. McCain. Obama, to take the obvious example, has not managed to go broke and been forced to lay off almost his entire staff. He's outfundraising McCain by four or five to one. And unlike McCain, who really only faced Mitt the Flip and Mike Huckabee, Obama has had to run against the scariest political machine currently in existence.

He's had a bad week. But he's a quick study.
