<i>"Anyone asking the question how a little known state senator who has served less than half a term as a US Senator could be the Democratic nominee for president only need look at Obama’s friends in very high places in Chicago."</i>

Are you suggesting that Obama has a smart, experienced, and competent staff from Chicago? Yes, he does.

From the same New York Sun column:
"For Mr. Daley, Mr. Obama's path to the presidency has many positives. Better to have the talented Chicagoan training his rhetorical thunder against such foes as Hillary Clinton and John McCain than against the top office holder in Clark [sic] County."

Daley (and the Cook County Democratic Machine) didn't back Obama until after the 2004 Illinois primary for the U.S. Senate. Axelrod, Jarrett, and Obama have University of Chicago connections. If you are suggesting that Obama is a creation of the Daleys or the Machine, it's wrong.

<em>Right. And Emil Jones is a reformer, Tony Rezko is an honest businessman, and Michelle Obama's family connections to the Machine are just a mirage. Not to mention Pfleger, Meeks, and Wright who more often than not support machine politicians.</em>

<em>Obama has used the machine his entire career - when using them could get him an advantage.

"So the Chicago crowd has a hand in Obama’s rise? Much like the Texans who helped Bush Jr. get elected or Carter’s old boy network in Georgia? To a certain extent, all politicians have different local networks pushing them ahead ..."

Maybe it's proximity to Chicago that makes this so compelling a story. I grew up hearing about the day-to-day corruption of Chicago's Democrats and frankly, Obama stinks of it. That it's been swept under the rug may be typical for Chicago politics, but Obama's not running for a local office.

Man, Chicago's City Hall must be chomping at their bits over the possibility of yet another National office being under their influence.

On the other hand, yup, that's the reality of politics. But isn't Obama stumping on the mantra of "change?" Doesn't that make this at least something that should be examined more closely?

So Daley is pulling Obama's strings? An interesting thought. Will that have worse consequences than the House of Saud or Haliburton bossing Bush around? Frankly, the cynic in me considers that fact a "bigger deal". Also, as a New York native, I beg to differ on which city is the most corrupt in America. We TAUGHT Chicago how to steal from the taxpayers 150 years ago!

Valerie Jarrett is also known as "the other side of Barack Obama's brain." Just an FYI, since my small post of early April, searching Valerie Jarrett's name has brought many hits. I assume it is the campaign keeping tabs on her press.

The Chicago machine also includes Bill Ayres.

How did the Clinton's miss this.

What makes Obama THE man for the Democratic party. That's he's as controllable and pliable as Gumby?

McCain better step it up

So the Chicago crowd has a hand in Obama's rise? Much like the Texans who helped Bush Jr. get elected or Carter's old boy network in Georgia? To a certain extent, all politicians have different local networks pushing them ahead; but some certainly are more reliant on them than others. Which seems to be the case here; I just don't know how big a deal it really is. The way I see it, its just relying on different sets of people to push your political career ahead rather than the traditional party back-rooms or the hall of congress. There is no way of knowing at this point in time whether this will make Obama a better or worse president. Which I suspect is why the MSN (and to a large extent, the blogisphere) is ignoring it for now.

<em>The "big deal" is that these Chicagoans come out of the most corrupt urban political machine in the country. And the Mayor himself may be pulling Obama's strings.

Nobody is missing anything... its just that nobody gives a shit. Lefty's want him to win regardless of how corrupt he is, or who's pocket he's in. Righty's are so disillusioned with McCain that they have given up (I'm basically one of them). Moderates are too stupid to take a stand on anything.

Obama will probably appoint 2 SCOTUS justices. THAT should be the story of the campaign. Say goodbye to the 2nd amendment.
