It almost seems to have as part of the theme to show what a truly incompetent POTUS looks like.

Whether this was the writer's intent or not, I think you're absolutely correct.

I don't know if this is a function of the way the character was written, or Cherry Jones' acting (honestly, I have never seen her in anything prior to this so I'm not going to put the blame entirely on her), but she really, truly sucks as President.

And there's been nothing about the show that has made me wonder why she is right to risk American lives and American soldiers on some country in Africa.

While I still like "24", this season lacks the intensity and fast pace of previous seasons. It almost seems to have as part of the theme to show what a truly incompetent POTUS looks like.
(Not that we haven't seen some of this in previous seasons)

soccer dad,

I expect that the real mole will use Sean's dumb move reg'd the plane to point the blame toward him while they cover their tracks.

My guess is that there are two moles in the FBI --- Janis and the blond girl.

I'm pretty certain that Sean is a red herring. Yes, he's doing a lot of suspicious stuff, but didn't he arrange for his wife's plane to move to the head of the line? And let's assume that because his wife's plane was moved ahead the Congressman's plane was still in the sky when Dubako played his trick, there will be an investigation. Sean's little game will be discovered. And he'll look guilty as sin, but guilty of the wrong crime.

In DC, the law forbids anything but hands-free cell phone usage. Jack should be fined.

In Hour 13, we will find that the terrorists plans will succeed because Jack will be forced to spend the next 11 hours in line at D.C. Superior Court trying to pay a traffic ticket ;)

"Larry: (almost gently): Jack – The rules are what make us better.
Jack: Not today".

This conflicting mindset was established in season #1 and has incrementally grown since. It may be good or bad that I have all six seasons containing similar statements but this one is the ultimate.
To the points about Jack violating traffic laws; In real life this couldn't happen in DC. I know, I've lived there. The city is crawling with police cruisers non-stop but the writers can be expected to stretch credibility and further, the caddy's owner was in shock to the extent he didn't think about On Star.

I also wonder how many people looked at Jack driving down the wrong direction of a one-way street, with a cell phone to his ear, and made a comment about people driving with cell phones (grin)

Interesting... Ms. Blowchunks as La Mole Fatale? Interrrrresting, and fits perfectly with her trying to work her womanly wiles on Hillinger. Great observation, Brendan.

Why go to an alternate universe for a hypothetical? Suppose Obama had to invoke the 25th amendment and Biden became President?

Um...the whole point was to have a scenario similar to the one on the show. McCain has a son in Iraq who might have been kidnapped which would have necessitated his stepping down temporarily. I suppose you could postulate that Obama's wife or kids might be kidnapped by jihadis but that is even more of a remote possibility than McCain's son Jimmy being taken by Sadrists.
