Reading these kind of posts reminds me of just how technology truly is ubiquitous in this day and age, and I think it is safe to say that we have passed the point of no return in our relationship with technology.

I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Ethical concerns aside... I just hope that as the price of memory falls, the possibility of transferring our brains onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's one of the things I really wish I could encounter in my lifetime.

on these popups, you can block them easily by:
- open a popup
- click on the '?' in the top right
- takes you to a website and one of the tabs is 'disable' open that tab
- click where it tells you to disable the popups.

Damn right, Rick.

And how typical that the search engine written by the "are you sure/please wait" people has cornered the market on the double-underlined green meanies.

There are various spam blockers for both IE and Firefox which automagically block them. Unfortunately, many RSS readers do not allow those programs to work, even though they use the IE rendering engines. I have just gotten so that I subconsciously mouse around the telltale URLs or other signs.

Excellent! The only thing worse is when they automatically start playing music or conversation.

As far as the "close" button, I have noticed that the program creates a delayed appearance... once the pop-up occurs, the close button will lag by a second or three.

Some really good programmer could make a lot of money on an application that monitors for those annoying bastards, and kills it before you even notice it.
