Proving the adage “Nothing is Sacred Anymore” Michelle Malkin links to a piece in the Wall Street Journal from Debra Burlingame, sister of Charles “Chic” Burlingame III, pilot of American Airlines fight 77, which terrorists crashed into the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, that should open some eyes about who and what is currently in charge of the memorial to the fallen planned for Ground Zero.
Take a couple of deep breaths before you read this…you’re gonna need them:
More disturbing, the Lower Manhattan Development Corp. is handing over millions of federal dollars and the keys to that building to some of the very same people who consider the post-9/11 provisions of the Patriot Act more dangerous than the terrorists that they were enacted to apprehend—people whose inflammatory claims of a deliberate torture policy at Guantanamo Bay are undermining this country’s efforts to foster freedom elsewhere in the world. The driving force behind the IFC is Tom Bernstein, the dynamic co-founder of the Chelsea Piers Sports and Entertainment Complex who made a fortune financing Hollywood movies. But his capital ventures appear to have funded his true calling, the pro bono work he has done his entire adult life—as an activist lawyer in the human rights movement. He has been a proud member of Human Rights First since it was founded—as the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights—27 years ago, and has served as its president for the last 12.
The public has a right to know that it was Mr. Bernstein’s organization, joined by the American Civil Liberties Union, that filed a lawsuit three months ago against Donald Rumsfeld on behalf of detainees in Iraq and Afghanistan. It was Human Rights First that filed an amicus brief on behalf of alleged “dirty bomber” Jose Padilla, an American citizen who the Justice Department believes is an al Qaeda recruit. It was Human Rights First that has called for a 9/11-style commission to investigate the alleged torture of detainees, complete with budget authority, subpoena power and the ability to demand that witnesses testify under oath.
Malkin refers to this as a “sacrilege” which Websters defines as “gross irreverence toward a hallowed person, place, or thing.” I don’t know about you but I’d say that was spot on.
It’s times like these that words absolutely fail me. The fact that this has been allowed to happen in the first place only proves that like rambunctious two year olds, you have to watch the moonbats every minute lest they touch something they shouldn’t.
Since they’re not my two year old, maybe we could leave the cabinet that has all the household cleaners in it invitingly open with the caps conveniently taken off.
Who knows…maybe they’ll get thirsty….

Saw that one coming a mile away! As soon as that hideous Liebeskind plan was rammed through, with it’s central “Museum of American Culture”
I know all too well who the arbiters of culture are, especially in the major cities, and how they would try to seize this opportunity to create “The Museum of Underlying Causes”, dedicated to proving that Americans are nothing but land grabbing, slave flogging, atom bombing, baby killers who deserve to be wiped off the face of the earth in the name of “social justice”
Fortunately, if New Yorkers had any real enthusiasm for this POS project, It would already be halfway finished by now. Something tells me that Manhattanites are more sensible than those who claim to represent them.

Well said…and I agree.

“Understanding this country’s efforts to foster freedom elsewhere in the world.” Or here, for that matter!
Don’t ever count on honor among thieves or liberals to have any honor whatsoever.
ACLU & Bernstein, anyone surprised? They have made a tangled mess, may be found out, or not. Can’t worry too much. All I do know, Rick, is that the public seems to understand what’s goin’ on. Is it the Bloggers, surely not the MSM. But word does seem to be getting out. The demoCRAPS threw more money, and with the help of the MSM, tried to blacken our president. It didn’t work. Would have years ago. So somethings are a-changing!
Eventually, as usual, as the money is wasted away and people who do care about our safety and a fitting memorial at ground zero are found out, they will receive their come-upens. Bloggers will have to do a lot of investigating and burn the midnight oil to be sure that they are exposed. The Bloggers army is growing.

I can see it now, Ward Churchill will do the ribbon cutting while giving directions to the mosque on the fifth floor.

The only thing that will earn us the respect of, and therefore peace from the moslem world is bravery.
If we don’t build an => pair of towers, we’re going to end up having to build a whole new NEW YORK CITY. Mark my words.

In a back handed way this proposed museum seems to blame the victims. This is our tragedy. We have the right to mourn as we need to. If the UN didn’t stop these other tradgies…...because that should be their job, then maybe the museum to the atrocities of the world should be put in the lobby of the UN building.

Great idea Janet…trouble is, we’d have to pay for it!
