My latest PJ Media column is up. It’s about my excellent adventures wandering around the YearlyKos convention.
I’ll have more to say about this next week. Until then, here’s a sample from my column today:
The third annual YearlyKos Convention got underway today at McCormick Place in Chicago with 1500 delegates from around the country attending workshops and listening to political experts while getting primed for political battle in 2008.And as Markos Moulitsas Zúniga, AKA “Kos,†made crystal clear at a press conference this afternoon, the battle will not only be against Republicans, but also against Democrats who need to be “cleansed†from the party. Kos didn’t name any names, saying we will find out “soon enough†which Democrats would be targeted for defeat in the primaries. But his message was clear; on issues near and dear to the hearts of the progressive on line community, Democrats will adapt or they will face the wrath of this new force in politics.
In effect, Kos has promised to remake the Democratic Party in the image of the netroots. And while many observers think that this would pull the Democratic Party too far to the left, Markos disagrees.
“There is no Jesse Jackson wing of the Democratic party anymore. We are the center,†he said.
I may not get much on the site today or tomorrow due to my attendance at the netroots convention.

If it gets your readers an informed view of what’ going at the convention, take as long as you need.

Kos Charts Democrat’s Future…
He’s planning a purge of the Democrats, forcing out anyone who does not hold to the “progressive” philosophy found on his site and among the nut-roots. And as Markos Moulitsas Zúniga, AKA “Kos,” made crystal clear at a press conference…...

I think the polls confirm what Kos says…

I hope the Kossaks win. They will take the Dim party so far to the Left that it will never recover.
The only downside is that they might win a national election. If they do, I am sure the kulaks will be rounded up and the peasents liberated.

I don’t understand why making the Democratic Party an actual left-wing party is a bad thing. The GOP currently is much farther from the center than the Democrats are, and the playing field needs something to balance it out. Clinton was practically a centrist as president and the current Democratic Congress is still too interwoven with corporate interests IMO.
All this talk of “cleansing” and “purges” yet all the left has really done is cause Joe Lieberman, a man who accuses his own party of treason on a regular basis, to lose a primary in a fairly liberal state.

[...] Speaking of, Rick Moran, is a man amongst a bunch of mice and is covering the Yearly Kos convention. You can check out his report at the link above. [...]

What Democrat, worth his/her wool, would be afraid of Markos Moulitsas? This guy’s a punk. And his blog will be a dinosaur in 2 years.
If you are a Democrat, you better be a heckuva lot more worried about what George Soros thinks of you than Markos “MyFollowersAverage16yrsold” Moulitsas.
Soros can send heads rolling while good old “Kos” is more intent on rolling other stuff.

Yes, the nutroots are following the old ultra-left purging of heretics who wish to seek a centrist, i.e., winning, strategy. When the marginals take over a party, it’s called a “movement,” as when I was part of the Gene McCarthy “Movement” in 1968.
What invariably happens is that the mini-civil wars that arise within the Democrats [as I saw repeatedly across the country in ‘68 & at the Democratic Convention, when it finally erupted into violence] destroy the party’s chances in the General Election.
Is history repeating itself?

If I visited yearly Kos I would need an antidepressant.

Kos is no political force to be reckoned with, despite all the hype or visiting liberal vip’s like Clinton. They are just the same liberal keyboard commandos that there always has been, who have always voted they way they do. They are not changing any independent voters minds, certainly not changing any conservative thinking. The kooks on steroids (kos) are just imagining that someone is listening to their liberal groupthink. They are interpreting the website hits of their own making as new interest in themselves. It’s the old liberal chant “we are correct, and the rest of you are ignorant, and no opposing views are allowed”. Don’t complain, it keeps them off the street.
