THE INTELLECTUAL DISHONESTY OF THE OPEN BORDERS CROWD

I’ve had it with the smug, self-righteous group of immigration “reform” advocates who are calling those of us who support the rule of law over rule of politics “racists” and even (irony of ironies) “UN-American.” It reflects a towering intellectual dishonesty about the issue when your opponents feel free to distort the true nature of the opposition to illegal immigration by setting up so many strawmen that one would think the Scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz was on a self-replication binge, dotting the political landscape with enough copies of himself to populate a medium sized city.

The truth of the matter is that the Open Borders argument is political poison unless it is wrapped in the flag, buttressed by the politically correct buzzwords “tolerance” and “fairness” with a final appeal to pity by raising the specter of legal children being torn from illegal mothers by cruel, heartless, pro-enforcement monsters. This would all be bad enough. It is the attempt by this crowd to connect pro-enforcement advocates with neo-Nazis, skinheads, radical militiamen and the like that stinks of demagoguery and proves how truly mendacious the Open Borders groups can be.

The demonstration on May 1 is a case in point. Dubbed a “Rally for Immigrant Rights,” one would have to be brain dead not to have figured out that in fact, the “Rally” was about no such thing. Instead, as every 5 year old in America who has been following this movement knows, the May Day protests were about “rights” for illegal immigrants, a fact brought out in this article in today’s Washington Post:

While a series of marches focused much of the nation’s attention on the plight of illegal immigrants, scores of other Americans quietly seethed. Now, with the same full-throated cry expressed by those in the country illegally, they are shouting back.

Congressional leaders in Washington have gotten bricks in the mail from a group that advocates building a border fence, states in the West and South have drawn up tough anti-immigrant laws, and ordinary citizens, such as Janis McDonald of Pennsylvania, who considers herself a liberal, are not mincing words in expressing their displeasure.

“Send them back,” McDonald said. “Build a damn wall and be done with it.”

The anger evoked a word that immigrant organizers who opposed Monday’s boycott feared: backlash. McDonald and other Americans were particularly disturbed by Monday’s boycott and civil action, attended in large part by people who entered the country illegally and are now demanding rights enjoyed by U.S.-born citizens and immigrants who entered the country legally.

Of course, the Post reveals where they stand on the issue by referring to the “plight” of illegal immigrants as if sneaking across the border, purchasing forged social security and/or green cards, and trying to stay one step ahead of Homeland Security represents a hardship brought upon the illegals by anyone other than themselves.

That said, the article points out a difference that the Open Borders crew refuses to acknowledge and, in fact, obfuscates in order to tag their opponents as heartless gorgons. It is the difference between those who endure the bureaucratic rigmarole and long waiting periods to legally enter this country and those who take the sometimes perilous but nevertheless easier way by sneaking across the border in defiance of the law.

In truth, this is the club used by the pro-illegal lobby to beat enforcement advocates over the head. By successfully blurring the distinction between legal and illegal immigrants, they can portray those who support a rational immigration policy as ideological soul mates of the “Know Nothing” anti-immigrant, anti-Catholic party of the early 1850’s.

The anti-immigrant movement of that period was a direct response to the first mass migration of Irish to the United States. It is estimated that more than 1.5 million starving Irish left their home country between 1848-50 as a result of the almost total failure of the potato crop and the confused, heartless response of the British government to the starving millions on that unfortunate isle. So many foreigners (and Catholics to boot) overwhelmed some cities in the northeast which frightened many native born protestants into forming their own party. The official name of the movement was the American Party. The origin of the “Know Nothing” moniker came about as a result of the semi-secret nature of the party. When a member was asked about its activities, he was supposed to reply “I know nothing.”

It is a convenient whipping boy for pro-illegal advocates because many of the “Know Nothings” were absorbed into the new Republican party. Not knowing quite what to do with these nativists (Democrats of that period pandered shamelessly to the new arrivals), they were successfully marginalized in the election of 1860 by Lincoln’s “Free Labor, Free Soil, Free Men” platform.

But that doesn’t stop the Open Borders crowd from using the specter of the Know Nothings to skewer their opponents and tar them with the nativist label. The fact is, there are many in the pro-enforcement lobby who seek to dramatically increase legal immigration as well as make the path to citizenship for those who abide by the law less of a burden both bureaucratically and legally.

Almost 1 million people enter this country as legal immigrants every year. This number includes people whose temporary visas have expired and wish to stay on to work or to achieve citizenship. There are very, very few enforcement advocates who begrudge these potential citizens their rights under the law. And while there is a loud minority in the anti-illegal movement who seek to reduce or even eliminate legal immigration to the United States – the stated reason being homeland security – most pro-enforcement advocates actually support increased legal immigration.

But you would never know this if the only information you received was from the pro-illegal groups. They have successfully portrayed the anti-illegal lobby as anti-immigration – both legal and illegal – as well as proponents of a draconian “round-up” of illegals that would tear families apart and turn the United States into a police state. And while this may be the extremists view of the matter, such thinking is hardly in the mainstream.

On the other hand, how often do you read about International ANSWER and how they have expropriated the reform movement for their own nefarious ends? Those May Day protests were largely organized by the communists in ANSWER while being opposed by more mainstream immigration groups. In fact, few pro-reform websites bothered to inform their readers of this very salient point.

We will not have meaningful immigration reform until we all agree that the United States is a sovereign country with recognizable borders that must be defended. That defense includes shutting the door on people who would break the law to come here. It is such a basic concept that it is mystifying why the pro-illegal lobby deliberately ignores it. At times, they seem almost embarrassed by the fact that the United States has a right to determine who comes here and who doesn’t as well as determining its own requirements for citizenship.

In the end, this is what “sovereignty” is all about; the belief that being born an American is a privilege beyond words and that becoming an American should also be a privilege, earned by a legal immigrant’s hard work, obedience of the law, and desire to be a part of this grand experiment in self-government.

Anything less and you cheapen the idea of citizenship for everyone.

UPDATE

Michelle Malkin has an article about the Reconquista as well as much more information in her Vent segment at Hot Air.
I have read much on both right and left sites about whether or not the reconquista is a serious part of this pro-illegal movement or just a strawman set up by oppnents to scare people into opposing immigration from Mexico.

I find it interesting that those who subscribe to the latter view always start out by saying that the reconquista is not the goal of illegal immigrant groups and end up by saying that, in effect, it is. I don’t buy the proposition that this notion of taking back the southwest is some holdover from the radical 1960’s, not when through their rhetoric and actions, these groups show that reconquista is alive and well and is a not so subtle goal of the Mexican government as well.

Reconquista is not a strawman. And the fact that pro-illegal groups either support it or fail to oppose it says much about the ideological makeup of their movement.

Another good read on this as well as some excellent commentary about the state of the left can be found Alexandra’s All Things Beautiful.

Makes sure you wish her “Happy Birthday!”

    Rick,

It’s going to take more the opinions to compel Congress and the President to change their tack on illegal immigration. We can talk ourselves to death and type until we’re arthritic, but unless we actually begin taking some action, the United States as we know will not exist in another generation.

At this point, any debate, discourse, dialogue, discussion or whatever the hell else you want to call it should focus on generating constructive plans to actively resist this so-called immigration reform. If we aren’t prepared to begin re-asserting our rights and privileges as a sovereign people, we may as well run up the white flag and join the French today.

    Ideas, please.

I have a question for you, based on your position that what bothers you about this situation is that our laws aren’t being respected.

Suppose we began to guard the border so that Al Qaida couldn’t get in, but that we allowed in as many Mexicans and Latin Americans as wanted to come – with the provision that they “want to be part of this grand experiment.” And I assume you wouldn’t limit it to just latinos, but to Africans, Asians, indeed anyone anywhere who wasn’t hostile to the USA and was willing to “be part of the grand experiment”, whatever that means.

Would that be ok with you? Would it really not bother you if we had 40 or 50 million third-world immigrants a year coming here? Or even just five or ten million?

I think if we are honest we will admit that the issue is not the legality of the situation, because resolving that is easy – just legalize them and largely eliminate the immigration restrictions. Then legality is no longer an issue. The real question is, do we want an alien people coming to our country at all? After all, weren’t the concerns of the Know-Nothing party legitimate? Didn’t the massive influx of Irish change the face of their society? Didn’t the Irish seize a virtual monopoly of political power? Wasn’t there in fact a great deal of inter-ethnic strife for many, many years? And that was strife between people of the same race who spoke the same language and had the same basic religion. It is very, very difficult to assimilate people of different races, religions, and languages. Blacks have still not assimilated after four hundred years and show no signs of assmilitating – and have no desire to assimilate into the white population, nor should they be expected to.

I would summarize my position on immigration as follows:

    (a) We don’t need immigration. We have enough people, and when we allow a quality person to emigrate here, we rob their homeland of a quality person. Labor shortages resolve themselves through market mechanisms – automation, for example. We no longer have a vast continent to settle quickly and lay claim to.

    (b) If we did need immigration, the only people we should allow in are those who are highly skilled, educated, speak our language, are financially stable, are committed to becoming completely American (not a hyphenated American) and of the same ethnic background of the historic majority of the population – i.e., white. (Because assimilation is tough enough without adding racial conflict into it.)

The whole “we’re only objecting to illegal immigrants because they’re coming here illegally” argument is disingenuous. It’s not about legality. It’s about the unsuitability of 20 million Mexicans to our society. They have their own country – they should stay there and fix it.

You can call that ungenerous if you want, but it is not our responsibility to fix Mexico’s problems any more than it is their responsibility to fix ours. You can call that racist if you want, or nativist, but the reality is that people feel an afffinity for their own ethnic group just like they do for their own family, and mixing more than one ethnic group in a single nation is almost universally a recipe for strife. Blacks and whites have unsuccessfully been trying to come to terms with one another for 400 years here and the current state of affairs is symbolized by the vast black ghettos in places like Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, Washington, and Philadelphia, places where whites dare not go. It’s insane to add yet another incompatible ethnic group to our already unresolved mess.

I have to say, I have to hand it to Senor Fox, he has effectively removed his country from the whole debate of illegal immigration. We are arguing about what to do about his surplus population and contemplating implementing a program that will take millions more off of his hands, well done Mr. Fox, well done.

Actually the ‘May Day’ demonstrations were only organized to benefit one group. The American Communist (and their democrat base) organized, financed (millions of dollars now on the way to the dump) and provided the talking points/rants. Most of the participants were uneducated criminal aliens that had no idea of the hate and backlash that would be created against them, not the backers hidden in dark rooms plotting the overthrow of the country. You can put the left wing in the uneducated class also since they can’t seem to figure out who is now running the democtratic party. Five or six billionaire’s have the entire democratic party under their thumb and the dumicrats won’t excape because that means losing millions of dollars. Kind of like paying $5,000 for a gun to shoot yourself when a $10 saturday night special would do the same damage. They sell their children’s future for what they thing in a gain for them today. Leftie Ego’s and hate are killing a lot of them and will destroy the country.

I used to manage a restaurant in San Diego in the late 80’s. The latino employees believed in the Reconquista. I heard many times about how this was going to be Mexico some day and that there was an invasion but we were too stupid to know it. I think there is a parallel between illegals and their support for Aztlan and “moderate” muslims and their support for the islamists. They may not be very vocal about it but deep in their hearts they support the renewal of Aztlan and restoration of the Caliphate. Very nice post.

You know I served with a lieutenant in Korea in the early 90’s who went to West Point (so if there’s anyone who should be inculcated with American values you’d assume it’d be a newly-minted West Pointer), and he’d talk about being an “Aztec warrior” and Atzlan, and how he was a Mexican first and foremost.

I was also disturbed by the accepted presence of the La Raza gangs in the military, which the authorities knew about and didn’t do anything to stop.

I’m not saying that most Hispanics in the military are not patriotic and dedicated to the US, but instead that it’s scary how many seem to have divided loyalties, which is real disturbing when compared to the general population (where you might expect some of this separatist nonsense).

    Mark J,
Those are impressive mental gymnastics you employ. By your logic we could eliminate that entire “murder rate” problem by simply making murder legal, and we could eliminate those darned “speeding ticket problems” by elimentating speed limits (a concept I might actually endorse.)

    Jeff,

I think you misunderstood me, so let me spell it out for you again.

My point is that the illegality of what the illegals have done is not the real issue. If Mr. Moran’s concern is just that some people crossed our borders without permission, if that’s all that’s bothering him, well that can be remedied by passing an amnesty and declaring our borders open. But that would be like saying that the problem with murderers is that what they are doing is againt the law. The illegality of the murder is not the issue – it is the consequences of the actual act that matter. Likewise, it is not the illegality, per se, of their crossing that matters in this immigration issue; it is the actual consequences of 20 million more Mexicans here, whether they get here legally or not. I may not have made that point clearly enough. Either that, or you’re the intellectual moron.

One of the main problems with illegal immigration is the assimilation factor. When you have a stadium of soccer fans pouring piss on the U.S. players it is a problem, especially when the game is taking place in Los Angeles. Immigration is a great thing, but when the person immigrating wants to become American and believes in our country’s founding ideals. Immigration should not be solely economic. Unfortunately, if we look deep we will find that natural born citizens of this country don’t even know our history. So let’s fight illegal immigration, but at the same time lets start fighting for historical education. Maybe if more Americans knew who James Otis, or if they taught the Federalist Papers in school, we would strenghten our country from within. So while we look outside, let’s also look within and take pride in this country by learning about it.

    Bottom Line:

We (American Citizens) need to wake up and fight for our own country and culture. I totally agree with MarkJ and feel we do not have to make up for Mexico’s failures or any others for that matter. We DO have enough people in this country. Like Australia, we should require skills and make assimilation mandatory for anyone we do let in.
Political correctness be dammed! It is a shame when being patriotic and pro-American is cause to be labeled “racist” by people with an Anti-American agenda. The fact that we let them get away with it is unbelievable! Wake up people or we are going to end up like France: Mob rule, lost culture, unimportant destroyed from within.

Well, I live on the border in deep South Texas. I’ve been surrounded by Hispanics all my life, and I can assure that the Hispanics I grew up with are nothing like Hispanics today. The people I grew up with were serious and ambitious students, and today are judges, lawyers, doctors, bankers, brokers, businessmen. They are proud and successful, and they resent being referred to as Mexican, calling themselves Americans of Spanish descent. They speak English.

But about 20 years ago, I noticed a change in the Hispanic population, especially in the immigrants which supersaturate this area. These people have a real attitude problem. They are racists who hate Americans, especially white Americans. I mean they really hate them. I know because I interract with them every day. If I speak English, they look at me with disdain and will not do business with me. But I can speak Spanish well enough to pass for a Hispanic, so they often say things in front of me, overtly racist comments that you would not believe. I’m talking about advocating racial violence. They refuse to learn English because they see that as betraying their race, just as they refuse to assimilate because they see that as betraying their country. I’ve noticed this attitude has pemeated the local Hispanic population, especially among the young, and today is emblematic of a majority.

”... It is almost inconceivable that an argument is taken seriously that we don’t have the right to secure our borders and determine who shall enter our country. Not only has such lunacy become respectable, but our mainstream media instantly, instinctively embraces such a position. Every radio headline newscast, almost every newspaper and television report willfully refuses to distinguish between illegal and legal immigrants. Each report stamps the mark of evil on the forehead of all who would guard our borders.
Even the Republican president of the United States makes the nonest of non sequiturs, when he justifies doing nothing to enforce the border laws by claiming that these are decent humans just looking for a chance in life.
Well, with the exception of the 29 percent of federal prisoners and similar numbers in state prisons, with the exception of those who seek our welfare, rather than a job—the rest of the wayfarers are indeed far from their native lands for the most decent and best of intentions.” From the Washington Time news paper this morning.

We have 13 million illegals of military age in this country in time of war; not to smart. We have Senator Harry Reid giving a secret $4 million dollars ear mark to a Mexican organization which is preaching rebellion. We have at least another 50 million illegals ready to swim the Rio Grand after the Senate gives our country away. We have President Fox sending his citizens over the border in waves, an act of war for millennia. We have Senators who are unaccountable it seems, who have forgotten just who has put them into office. Just what are the procedures to get rid of a setting Senator, has it ever been done before, are there laws pertaining to this situation?

Until Congress wakes up and makes it EASIER to follow the law than it is to ignore the law, no immigration reform plan will work.

Border enforcement, assimilation, valid identity/work documents are all important and great ideas but they all require the majority to comply voluntarily. The federal immigration bureaucracy is so hopelessly broken nobody even wants to try to fix it – but a bureaucracy that makes people wait months or years for a visa or green card is one that makes it too tempting to just walk across the border…

Will they actually use force against “los hermanos”? You will see a scenario similar to the one played out at the Kremlin years ago when soldiers climbed out of their tanks and walked away. Our culture is already gone, soon our Constitution will follow.

The patriotic illegal immigrant argument is a vacuous one, which is why the proponents have to wrap it in the flag to promote it. This is election year propaganda from a media that is hemmoraging viewers.

The illegal aliens can march every day for a year and will change nothing. The media is behind this for electioneering purposes, and every group pandering to it has an axe to grind.

The reconquistas will find smooth sailing right up until the time that they actually try to take possession of the land. Like the Japs, the Nazis, the communists, and Al-Queda, they’ll be in for a colossal surprise on that day. Most Americans are sympathetic to someone trying to better their lot in life, but are real short tempered with race-baiters and their troblemaking ilk. I think that the blowback on these marches is yet to come, and I think that the biggest losers will be the supporters of the do-nothing status quo.

What no one is asking is the obvious question- what will the reconqustas do on the gloious day that they take over Azatlan only to find that its newly minted citizens are all clamoring to cross its new border with the United States? I already know- they’ll ask the media to champion an infusion of foreign aid from Los Estados Unidos!

MarkJ, you are correct. If we were to legalize it, that doesn’t make it better. It still does as much damage, maybe more.

An approach that may avoid certain erroneous criticisms: Opportunities in the U.S. should be equally available to those in friendly countries. Citizens of Mexico should not try to crowd out others in the world who are far more desperate than they are, with much less chance of fixing their own country. Of course, the U.S. can only assimilate so many people, there would therefore be qualifications and limits. The needs of the country would be considered first. What would we have to offer them if we lost it?

The 14th Amendmentment should be adjusted through whatever effective means to require that ones parents be citizens before birth makes citizenship automatic. This is th 21st centtury, not the 19th. There are 6 Billion people on the planet, and a population greater than the world’s total in the 19th century is added every 10 years and accelerating. We can not ignore this. We must adjust to it. Many other countries have this parent citizen requirment. Mexicos laws regarding immigration are far stricter than ours.

The Social Security database should be developed. Employment requirements must adhere to all relevant labor laws. Taxes, benefits, unions, the works. No slave class living 20 to a room. No liberal can claim to advocate that openly.

But of course, the market would adjust to whatever. If no one came, we would still eat fruits and vegetables, just like we are still speeding around in our SUVs with gas at $3/gal.

Their physical presence here does not guarantee them money or benefits. If we take measures to fine their employers who do not use our new Social Security database, they will have no jobs. No jobs, no money, no food, no benefits. What will they do then? Get violent? There are 50 million Americans who are waiting for them to do just that. Guess what happens then.

If we gave them the land, that would only get them resources, not jobs. And yet their country has abundant resources already, more than ours in some cases. They would turn the area it into an economic wasteland. They need us, they need what we do, and how we do it.

I hope there are that many, but even if there are, where does that leave the balance of Americans? Supportive of cheap landscapers, and cheap drivers, and cheap lettuce pickers, and cheap construction workers, etc. When the shooting starts, which side will really be outnumbered?

But I have nil chance of getting a green card to work in the US. Legal immigration or even guest-working for a few years is being crowded out by illegal immigration.

If the US continues to take in millions of unskilled and often illiterate people, many of them hostile to American values and laws, it will be creating its own downfall. Giving a de facto amnesty to 12/15 millions now will simply be inviting another 20/30/40 million to enter illegally and wait for the next amnesty.

I very much wish we had a sensible immigration policy so that we could open the door and extend a warm welcome to people like yourself. From what I have seen in Europe I expect that a time will come within twenty years, perhaps within a decade, when masses of native Europeans will be looking for a safe place to move – just as white South Africans are now. Russia doesn’t seem to be a place with much going for it, which essentially leaves Australia and the U.S. or Canada. Because Australia and Canada are more firmly in the grip of leftist multicultural fantasy, I expect that the US (with our still-significant base of conservative whites) will become the last bastion of European culture at some point. I expect an exponentially growing number of white Westerners will become cognizant of the threat to our existence, but not in time to prevent widespread violence – probably when the next great economic collapse occurs, which is a certainty and might not be far off. I do also expect a time will come when you will again be welcomed here. People are blinded at the moment but we are not fundamentally stupid and when the situation becomes clear enough, attitudes will change (for most, but not all). Thank God that our competitors – the Mexicans and muslims – are such poor strategists. Blowing up skyscrapers and subways and marching by the hundred thousands waving foreign flags is a terrible strategy when your only skill is reproducing with abandon. They should have stayed quiet and polite until their numbers in our countries were larger.

If the illegal “aliens” don’t like it they can become legal, then become citizens, and then vote against it. Meanwhile they have got nothing but noise – maybe a lot of noise – but it is still nothing but noise to offer.

And if they continue to make noise, watch out for the backlash to come. Americans do not like to see illegals telling them what right they do or do not have. An illegal alien has only one right – the right to due process while he/she is being sent back across the border. Nothing More!

    John,

In terms of causing a great deal of damage with a sneak attack, yes, I suppose you could say Bin Laden had an effective strategy. Which so far has worked exactly once. There hasn’t been another 9/11 here since. And while he cost us a lot of money, he also woke us up to his threat. Well, some of us anyway.

The fact is that Bin Laden and his muslim fanatics will never have anything but two tools at his disposal, at least in the forseeable future: terrorism and demographic invasion through immigration and high birthrates. The first option may work to force us out of the Middle East, but terrorism is not going to allow him to conquer the world. The second option, if it had been pursued quietly, could have (and still might). Instead, muslims and Mexicans seem to be doing their utmost to antagonize and stir up hatred of themselves in their Western host countries. That’s just stupid.

Our opinions of the Iraq war differ. I think our invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq was unanticipated by Bin Laden, who thought we were too weak and soft to actually attack those regimes. I think we’ve killed a lot of his people and disrupted his operations and that’s why in nearly five years he has not managed another attack in the US. Ultimately we will have to leave because we can’t fix Iraq or any muslim society. But I think the probability that his goal was to goad us into attacking and deposing his host regime in Afghanistan and setting up a democracy in Iraq is close to zero. Remember how he and the Taliban denied having anything to do with 9/11 until the video was captured of him bragging about it? If his goal had been to lure us into attacking him there he would have claimed responsibility from the beginning.

And it’s no great shakes to pull of one major successful sneak attack. The Japanese did it at Pearl Harbor and look where it got them. A good strategist chooses a path that leads to victory, not just a quick flashy initial success that wakes up and infuriates an enemy that is too large for you to defeat.

As for us being brilliant, I didn’t say that, did I? Half of us think the thing to do is to “understand” them, hold more U.N. conferences, send more of our money to their third world ratholes, and basically surrender. So I would not say we were brilliant. Just that they are stupid for arousing our ire pointlessly.

    svenghouli,

It is true that immigrants, such as Indians like yourself, will study hard and work hard to succeed here and that the free market rewards that. And we don’t have a problem that I am aware of in this country with Indian criminals or gangs or the other sociopathies associated with the latinos, Hmong, or some other groups. Yet, anyway.

But what you are ignoring is the reality of race and ethnic homogeniety in maintaining a cohesive nation. You hypothesize that if the Irish had been welcomed into society they might not have created problems. But that’s not how it works or worked. No people on earth welcomes large numbers of another people, even when they are the same race and speak the same language, like the Irish did. As you point out, many of the Europeans, Australians, and other whites around the world have disdain for the US. This supports my point that it is hard enough to get along with another people even when you share race and language and history. It becomes almost impossible when you had racial and genetic differences as well.

We want to live with and be with their own people. We feel comfortable that way, and that is a good thing, just like feeling comfortable in our own families is natural and a good thing. It’s a natural part of life and it is not evil any more than it is evil if I feel an affinity for a neice or nephew. You used code words like “Aryan” and “whites-only country club” that recall the past when whites used segregation laws and even genocide to try to protect their societies from outsiders. It is wrong to use violence against others and there is no way to defend genocide, but those are the things that happen when different peoples find themselves competing for power and control in one nation. Look at the Hutus and Tutsis in Rwanda, or the muslims and hindus in India, or virtually any other nation on earth where a significant minority group exists. As soon as the minority grows large enough, they want to gain the political power to start to shape the nation in their own image, or at least to ensure that they can live according to their own culture without having to adapt to the majority.

Indians are a tiny minority in this country right now, and the early immigrants of a tiny minority like you (whether you are first-, second- or a later generation) always work hard and assimilate because you feel your lack of standing here, your outsider-ness, and because you come from economically backward areas and have the work ethic you mention. But history suggests that if and when the Indian minority grows to a certain critical size here, they will begin to stop assimilating, begin to insist on their ways and customs being respected, and begin to openly vent the sense of resentment that any minority feels against a majority. Look at the muslims in Europe – the first generation was agreeable and hard-working; their children are not. Look at the hispanics in this country – their numbers grew large enough and now they are no longer the friendly, docile latinos they were 30 years ago. Now they march by the hundred thousand, waving the flag of their ethnic homeland and demanding accomodation to their language and culture.

People need to stay in their own lands and make their own societies better. Learn economic lessons from other countries and apply them in your own land. But the solution to third world economic problems is not for the third world to pick up and move into first world countries.

I have no desire to offend you because you are doubtless a good fellow human being and I wish you well. But you are not my people. Indians did not like it when the British moved in and took over. No people likes that. I will say it again: assimilation is very difficult even when two peoples are of the same race and speak the same language. But when they are of different races it is almost impossible.

The government and pro and contre immigration people wasted valuable time and money by simpley by doing nothing. They offered short term remedies which will they will revisit decade from now.
The remedy to the immigration problem is to manage it proportional to labour needs of the nation and offer some insentives for the illegal immigrants to come. The government should penalise business who hire illegal workers and should encourage those who want legalise their illegal workers.

Migration is in our blood and no one can stop someone from the promiseland. This is matter of survival.

Much kudos go to Mark J and his clear vision of the problem, and it is not simply the illegality of immigration. It is maintaining a homogenous or relatively homogenous country in order for it to stand a chance of survival in the coming millenia.

I resent commenters like svenghouli, who immediately trot out the racist or Aryan canard when any white person decides to DEFEND himself and his country. When did it become a crime against humanity for whites to want and dare I say demand the same rights given to all other ethnies or races? Sorry folks, however that no longer washes with me. Maybe svenghouli can enlighten us on why India allows no non-Indians to immigrate into the country? Why there was nearly major civil unrest when Sonja Gandhi was elected as PM, though had to relinquish it due to said threat of violence. For those unaware, Sonja Gandhi is an Italian women married to the late Rajiv Gandhi and who completely assimilated into Indian culture since arriving in 1968.

Maybe svenghouli can clarify why there is civil unrest and potential for a civil war in Fiji, where the native Fijians have become fed up with the practices and behaviour of Indians that came to the island in the mid 1800s? I wonder if the Fijians are tired of hearing that they too “do not have the same work ethic” as the industrious Indians, like svenghouli.
