BLOGBURST FOR FRED: MAN THE OARS AND START PULLING

Fred Thompson’s campaign is once again at a critical juncture and again I am showing my support for the candidate of my choice by organizing a Blogburst in hopes that we can raise the funds necessary for Fred’s campaign to be competitive.

This time, it’s South Carolina where Fred is staking all in hopes of a breakthrough victory. A clinical analysis of the GOP race for President shows that it is still anyone’s ballgame. Rasmussen’s most recent 4 day rolling average has Fred in 4th at 12%, ahead of Giuliani and just 9 points out of the lead held by Mike Huckabee at 22%.

But Thompson desperately needs to win in South Carolina in order to continue to be a viable candidate. And there are several factors at play in the Palmetto State that makes a Thompson win a realistic goal:

1. Romney has dropped out of the running in SC, having pulled his ads and is transferring staff in order to ambush John McCain in Michigan.

2. That leaves only three candidates with a realistic shot at winning in SC; Huckabee, McCain, and Thompson. Amazingly, none of the three candidates will have an overwhelming advantage when it comes to financing. This levels the playing field considerably.

3. SC voters have made it clear that opposition to illegal immigration is one of the top issues in the state. Looking at the three candidates above, who do you think has the most consistent, conservative record on immigration?

4. Outside factors may play a role in the dynamics of the race. McCain may very well be grievously wounded by a Romney win in Michigan – a state he won in 2000. There would be little time for McCain to right himself following a loss there what with the SC primary 4 days later.

In short, a Thompson win in SC is not only possible but within reach – if Fred has the money for media buys to get his message to the people.

I realize that many bloggers who support Fred have been hitting their readers hard for donations recently – especially since Fred’s campaign has set as a goal raising $540,000 by tomorrow in order to finance his ad campaign. As of Thursday morning, the effort has realized $420,000 towards that goal.

My hope is that once again, speaking with one voice and calling on our readers to dig deep, we can duplicate our success from December’s blogburst, putting Fred way over the top and give the campaign a rocket powered boost into South Carolina and beyond.

We’ve done it before and we can do it again. If you’re a blogger, please participate in this Blogburst for Fred by asking your readers to donate. If you haven’t already, join Jim Lynch’s The Marblehead Regiment and add your blog to his blogroll.

Man the oars and start pulling for Fred. The hour is late and the need is great. Time to pony up if we want to see a true conservative in the White House next November.

In Fred’s defense, a southern conservative never does well in NH, and a libertarian often does. Fred says SC is his firewall, but McCain will do well there because of his military background and Huckleberry will take most of the rest. Romney has already pulled out of SC, though maybe that helps Fred a little.

While I admire Fred’s attitude about not being desperate to be president, he can’t win that way. He’s sort of like W in that he has a life outside politics, but W knew he either had to run like hell or forget it. I think Fred knows he can’t win this way but doesn’t care. Saying all the right things and having good, well-defined ideas does no good whatsoever if you don’t win. Fred’s toast.

Secondly, the two donations I have made have been off my fiance’s card. And no, I will not reveal her name.

Calvin Coolidge is my exemplar of a good President.

Thompson still has a very good chance of winning the nomination. He’s the one with the best, most detailed policy positions. He’s by far the smartest (Romney is a bowl of cereal to him).

NH was as meaningless for Fred as Iowa was for Giuliani. Neither of them even campaigned in those places. They were deliberately written off. To attempt to gauge their overall performance from something like that is absurd. Now if Fred doesn’t do well in SC, you’ll have a point – but to claim NH matters when there was no expectantion he’d register there is plain silly, and speaks of an agenda.

I can see Fred winning the nomination.

According to GOP pollster Tony Fabrizio, about half of Republican voters are evangelicals or born again. For that reason, Giuliani and Romney (both of whom I like) are unlikely to triumph.

Except on certain issues (abortion, same-sex marriage) where religion dictates his position, Huckabee’s a leftist. I wouldn’t vote for him, and nor would many other social conservatives. So he’s a very long shot.

That leaves McCain and Thompson. Of the two, Thompson’s a more principled and consistent conservative. I think the race could come down to them, and Thompson’s the stronger candidate.

Huckabee, Iran and His Foreign Policy Dilemma

Everytime the MSM and Gov. Huckabee try to “ignore” the national security issues facing our country, another item comes slapping them in the face. It is the elephant in the room they do not want to discuss. Last was the ramifications of the assassination of B. Bhutto in Pakistan and now the events this weekend.

On Sunday, Iran speedboats ‘threatened suicide attack on US’ ships in Strait of Hormuz

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080107/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/us_navy_iran_20

In a little covered September 29th speech, Gov. Huckabee came out in favor of normalizing relations with Iran. He also criticized President Bush for naming Iran as part of the “axis of evil.” “We haven’t had diplomatic relations with Iran in almost 30 years, my whole adult life,” Huckabee said. “A lot of good it’s done us. Putting this in human terms, all of us know that when we stop talking to a parent or a sibling or a friend, it’s impossible to accomplish anything, impossible to resolve differences and move the relationship forward. The same is true for countries.”

Gov. Huckabee continues to try to run from his Foreign Affairs article and as he did in Saturday’s ABC debate. Challenging Romney on whether he had read the whole article. This from the author whose first line of defense in December was to claim “eight or ten” had a hand in writing the article (with him) and feigning ignorance over it’s contents. Alas, it was Huckabee’s name on the piece:
    http://youdecide08.foxnews.com/2007/12/21/condoleezza-rice-slams-mike-hu…

Huckabee tries in vain to claim that executive experience as governor trumps the need for foreign policy experience. Rudy even called him on it by contrasting Ronald Reagan’s extensive foreign policy credentials before he became president as an example showing how Huckabee paled in comparison.

Gov. Huckabee’s final arguement is his belief in his own judgement on critical matters. Between his multiple and continual gaffes on international affairs and national security and his proven rather poor “judgement” in relying on a “foreign policy team” to help him author such a contested article as his Foreign Affairs sophamoric piece, he only demonstrates that he is not ready for primetime.

This is a post-9/11 world. With respect to the demanding domestic issues facing our country, to discount our nation’s defense and national security when choosing a president, only leads to failures adn attacks on our homeland. That is a large part of Clinton’s legacy.

New Hampshire may not recognize it. Iowans did not. One can be sure that South Carolina (with the highest military and veterans residence per capita) will get it, despite the MSM and Hucksters trying to “ignore” the elephant in the room.

[...] Right Wing Nut House » BLOGBURST FOR FRED: MAN THE OARS AND START PULLING I realize that many bloggers who support Fred have been hitting their readers hard for donations recently – especially since Fred’s campaign has set as a goal raising $540,000 by tomorrow in order to finance his ad campaign. As of Thursday morning, the effort has realized $420,000 towards that goal. [...]

He was up to $590 and change about an hour ago. I donated anyway, in light of the debates and that it’s go time.

If he knocks Huck down, I’ll donate again in lieu of the vote I won’t be casting on Super Tuesday (I’ll be out of the country).

    Go, Fred, Go.

Whose comment was deleted? I only delete comments that are insulting or that contain obscenities.

Seriously, if you made a comment that is not published, chances are it got caught in my spam filter. Try it again and I will check the filter this time.

    Rick,

My comment was published at #45, so the spam filter didn’t prevent it. It’s gone now, though. Magic, I guess, unless the filter operates post-facto and considers the word “Duuuude” an insult. ;-)

The comment noted your admission to Roger at 2:17 of having made campaign contributions to Fred Thompson under a false name, which I gather is a crime punishable by up to a year in jail and $100k.

So if you’re going to delete any comment, you might start with #19.

My Askimet Spam Filter is extremely thorough. I’ve had trackbacks caught in it.

Perhaps before jumping to conclusions the next time you will take into account the publishing platform being used by the blogger.

Umokay. Rather than jumping to conclusions, I’ll ask: Why would your majestically thorough filter remove, after the fact, a post that had no obscenities or insults in it?

So, does it reject snark? ‘Cause I admit my original comment did have a modicum of snark.

Good to see Fred start to come alive. Loved it when he went after Huckabee. Guess I’ll send some more money his way this weekend, just to see what happens in S.C.

My question is when will he go after McCain? He had a great opportunity last night. Unfortunately, I’m thinking we’ll be waiting a long time. Supposedly, McCain is a best DC buddy, hence he politely “disagrees” with him.

Somebody other than Romney better be willing to go after McCain’s record soon, even if the RINO and his MSM promoters call it an “attack.”

Can Fred do it? Or are they working together? Will Fred endorse McCain in the end?

Don’t have much confidence in candidates or the average uninformed voters, for that matter.

I don’t have a clue why my filter removes anything – including the occassional legitimate comment and trackback.

Should I say that a third time or do you have it now?
