OH FOR GOD'S SAKE, STOP IT

He's a cretin who hates what America stands for, from our Constitution and rich history of triumphs over ideologies such as his to a dynamic society where people still (tobacco regulation slippery slopes aside) have many freedoms in their social, religious and political spheres he obviously cannot stomach.
What makes this terribly depressing is the money and attraction his crimes will raise for his cause. I would not be surprised if Stormfront and its ilk had record "hits" in the past few days on the web.
Almost as bad as this partisan foolishness over his political spectrum alignment are the calls raised to further restrict gun ownership since people like him seem to own guns somehow.

WHELAN APOLOGY LEAVES QUESTIONS UNANSWERED ABOUT BLOG COMMENTERS

Is there any possibility the commenting problem has only gotten worse as people have more time on their hands at work and/or home (because they are unemployed now or have hour cutbacks)?

As a former mil-blogger, I can understand why any blogger in an organization like the military or a corporation would consider pseudonymous blogging. Once people within know what you do, often unreasonable demands are made as to what happens on your blog. I was once called on the carpet for comments about mid-grade officers, the former SECDEF and senior NCO's that anonymous shipmates were posting in comment threads.

SMALL TOWN HEROES FROM THE HEARTLAND

I am reminded of inner-city kids who are taken out to the country and the world of small towns for camps in the summer, eyes bright with wonder at their surroundings. I recall the thrill of small town American kids venturing on a field trip to NYC or Chicago for the first time enjoying the huge buildings and the cityscape around them. There are two different worlds in the sense of environment, but the values of both seem quite similar.

Attempts to claim otherwise need to be treated with severe skepticism. I suppose I should ignore the plethora of urban families in city parks on pleasant afternoons, the critical mass of charity organizations cheerfully at work, the packed churches and the masses of workers trudging to work daily to support their families.

The big cities seem to not have a monopoly on elites.

NOT SOCIALISM: GANGSTERISM

While I am not happy about the UAW bailouts and other sordid matters of Obama's policies, I have little sympathy for this guy.

Is it the government's fault that Chrysler could not get its house in order for decades? Is it Obama's fault that they manufacture cars people do not prefer in comparison to Toyota, Honda, Hyundai and Ford?

If he had been smart, he would have diversified his car holdings (we have multiple Chrysler/VW/Honda (or some combo of) dealerships in my area) or even got out when he had a chance years ago (of course, its the government's fault that he seems to have a lack of business acumen and ability to pay attention to trends on the horizon).

Even more, as much as I despise the unions for what they have done to this country since the 60's (and continue to do so in the case of the teachers), the UAW has now conceded pay and benefits very close to what non-union auto workers get. While the prospect of labor extortion is favorable at some point down the line, I do not see it happening for 5-7 years. So the UAW took a significant haircut, at a time when the Wall Street folks refuse to do so and were still amply rewarded by Bush and Paulson and now Obama and Geithner. That is what we should be angry about, not some dealers who could not read the writing on the wall and now want a handout.

7th HEAVEN

To me the Bulls are better than the Magic, who have played terribly and miss their starting PG Jameer Nelson a lot more than they let on. They live and die by great 3pt shooting, something the Bulls tough D can negate. If the Bulls survive the Celts, they'll beat the Magic and then get pummeled with honor by the Cavs. Thank you for the occasional non-political post, as it shows off your writing skills in an enjoyable fashion.

GLENN BECK AND THE RADICAL RIGHT

How do I know that many who visit this site have the reading comprehension skills of a three toed sloth?

Three or four comments already informing me that Beck recently had on a writer from Popular Mechanics to debunk the FEMA camp conspiracy theory. Guess they missed this above:

I was relieved to hear that he brought in a writer from Popular Mechanics to debunk the FEMA camp story recently but that doesn’t change the fact that Beck lacks the ability to think rationally.

Now the rest of you don’t have to tell me what I’ve already written.

Really? The people that visit this site have the comprehension of a three toed sloth?
Read your own quote genius. On the one hand you are relieved that Beck had on the writer from Popular Mechanics to debunk the FEMA camp story and in the very same sentence you're saying Beck lacks the ability to think rationally.Which is it? Because having an expert debunk the story sounds pretty rational to me. I suggest that you check yourself into liberals anonymous, because suggesting that someone is somehow crazy for pointing out the truth is right out of the liberal handbook. Oh and by the way you don't quite get the appeal of someone like Ann Coulter? Try checking out her writing thats where the appeal is. Also try to debunk any of the facts she puts into her writing. Do some research it might open up a whole new world to you, you may actually learn something.I'll issue you a challenge read anything she has written and tell me just one falsehood that she's said. I wont hold my breath...

You know whats funny? So called conservatives being frightened by the truth. All one needs to do is open their eyes. If you can truly look at what the liberals are doing to our country and then say you're frightened by a conservative pointing out what is happening then I really feel sorry for you. Wake the hell up!

PITTSBURG SHOOTER WAS 'ENCOURAGED' BY CONSERVATIVES?

As usual, a reasonable and insightful look beyond the rhetoric and ridiculousness.

Thank you especially though for hitting on the NRA for its scare tactics. I would much rather see them focus on building up membership through all 50 states, especially those with excessive gun control laws or states not friendly to armed self-defense.

By growing local movements in each state to overturn these horrendous laws, the NRA can raise its membership rolls, fundraising and national prominence without resorting to silly scare tactics that make us look like nuts and fools.

ALZHEIMER'S: THE PERSONAL IS POLITICAL

As long as we do not let the passion of the personal overwhelm our pragmatism and common sense, I see no reason why we cannot be effective politically in such instances.
Your brother's report is exceptional. Thank you for sharing for the broader benefit what has to be an often difficult subject to discuss.

CPAC AGENDA SHOWS CONSERVATIVES STILL IN DENIAL

"Some conservatives might not like the smell inside the “Big Tent” but turning up your nose at people who disagree with you on one or two issues is just plain nuts. “Litmus tests” and the like are all well and good unless you are a minority, getting smaller and less relevant, and don’t wish to find a way back in order to compete in the marketplace of ideas."

You could not be right enough there.

Jim D, changing this aspect of GOP attitudes alone would be the first alternative that needs to be considered for conservatism to begin a comeback.
