My sense is that you are probably correct. Bob Beckel, who is generally if maddeningly pretty solid, opined tonight that the hype on Brown is a republican pipe dream. It is uphill for Brown and he will fall short.However, do you see any significance in Coakley's rise to engage Brown more directly? Is Massachussetts mirroring in any way the dis-satisfaction that seems to be building with the democrat's agenda?
I've read some interesting smippets on the Coakley/Brown debate. I'd be interested in your take if you happened to catch it.

Well written and lucid assessment. One thing keeps bothering me. What will keep the Taliban/Al Qaeda from laying low, building up reserves and making sure conditions on the ground point to the beginning of a withdrawal so that they can return with a vengeance when the USA and its allies leave? What will keep the Afghans from hedging their bets in that pre-pullout period so that the vengeance does not fall on them once withdrawal is effected?Expect negotiations between the Taliban and Karzai government and a unity government will be formed. That's the quickest way out for us.

I've been reading you for about quite some time now. I do not always agree with you, but I find myself re-evaluating my opinions many times after reading yours. To me, that is a good thing, which is why I continue reading you. Mental comfort does not equal being correct. Don't stop making us think.
