COMMENTS ARE ON THE FRITZ - TRACKBACKS COOL

Filed under: General — Rick Moran @ 4:27 pm

Sorry, but the comment function seems to be on the fritz. There’s no way that message about changing browsers should be coming up. If you’d like to make a comment, click the “contact” link above and send me an email.

Trackbacks are working normally.

I’ll post it as a comment as soon as I get this mess straightened out.

BEST APRIL FOOLS PRANK

Filed under: Blogging, General — Rick Moran @ 10:02 pm

Poor Glenn Reynolds.

It’s tough being the #1 right of center blog. Everyone begging for links. Thousands of emails a day.

And now, this.

It’s the best send up I’ve seen since the National Lampoon did a spoof on the New York Times. Keep scrolling and clicking…you won’t be disappointed.

AND FROM THE “TRUTH IS STRANGER THAN FICTION” DEPARTMENT…

When I first saw this, I was sure it was real.

Guess again!

Now…will Paul and the Commissar cut it out so we can go on with our miserable, lonely lives?

LOT ‘O’ STUFF

Filed under: General — Rick Moran @ 11:55 am

Yesterday was a red letter day for the House as Glenn Reynolds, Powerline, Hugh Hewitt, and Michelle Malkin linked to my humble site in the space of a little more than 24 hours.

Can I wake up now? Don’t pinch too hard, I have very sensitive skin.

Okay…Okay…enough horn tooting. Although, it kind of makes me wonder why it took me so long to get off blogger and on to a hosted site with a decent looking blog. My eternal thanks to Kim at E-Webscapes for all her incredibly hard work as well as her creative talent that makes this site almost universally praised for its layout and look.

Some quick hits and links for your bloggy enjoyment:

John Henke and the guys at Q & O have a new E-Zine you’ve definitely got to subscribe to. It’s called “The New Libertarian: A Journal of Neolibertarian Thought,” (PDF required). Sign up is free.

The rest of this post is dedicated to my buddies on our ever growing group blog “The Wide Awakes.”

TWA came about because several of my fellow righty bloggers were getting slammed by some of the meanest, nastiest lefty trolls around. Eventually, we came to the conclusion that by banding together (and using the Yahoo message board to stay in close contact) we could “ride to the rescue” of each other and flood the site being attacked with positive, supportive, comments. In addition, the site itself gives us all good exposure for our ideas and our writing.

The name “Wide Awakes” comes from the campaign of 1860 where “leather lunged Lincoln men” staged midnight torchlight parades all across the small towns and villages of the middle west in support of Lincoln’s candidacy. Because the parades occurred at such a late hour, they called themselves “The Wide Awakes.” The header art on the site is the actual logo used by the group.

Below are just a few examples from the group of excellent writers and defenders for The Wide Awakes:

Happy Blogiversery to Crystal! A licensed family counselor (and cute as a button), Crystal has a passion and insight into people you rarely find.

Just don’t get on her bad side (You should see how she dismanlted Michael Schiavo!)

TWA founder and mother superior is Cao of Cao’s blog. In this post, she rails against Google for dropping The Jawas for what they consider hate speech.

Cao also has some of the best background on Islamic fundamentalism around.

Feel like a little cat blogging? No place better to go than Romeocat’s Cathouse Chat. More seriously, she has a great update on what people are saying about the Schiavo case.

Another founding member is Beth of My Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. And since this is Wednesday, Beth is channeling the cutest little piece of trailer trash in these here parts, Beulah Mae for “White Trash Wednesday.”

Raven at “And Rightly So” is a medical professional whose insights on what Terri is going through have been both informative and agonizing to read. Today, she rails against Kofi and Kojo for the crooks they are.

Our resident Mad Tech has a few words of wisdom for liberals on gun control…not that they’ll listen. Anyone who’s tried to argue with a liberal on gun control knows the feeling of talking to someone from a different planet. Mad Tech explains why.

Two of our more productive attack dogs at The Wide Awakes are Jay and Kender. Like knights of old, they ride to the rescue of the pure of heart who have fallen under attack by the forces of darkness and evil.

ATTENTION MOONBATS: DO NOT FEED KENDER OR JAY. THEY WILL START BY BITING YOUR HAND AND WON’T STOP UNTIL YOUR HEAD IS HANDED TO YOU ON A SILVER PLATTER!

Consider yourselves warned.

TWA has recently added two fantastic writers. Van Helsing of Moonbattery (Love the name, love the site!) discovers more Ward Churchills in academia. If you haven’t visited Moonbattery before be prepared to enjoy some of the best writing on the web this side of…well, ahem…modesty forbids me from saying anything more.

And Eric at Vince Aut Morire has a laugh out loud piece on an article in the Jerusalem Post that quotes a Muslim “scholar” who predicts the US will be destroyed in 2007. (I am going to have to ask Eric about the origins of the unique moniker for his blog. Great header art too!)

These are my bloggy buddies in whom I am both well pleased and eternally grateful. Check out The Wide Awakes and blogroll these sites. You can’t do better anywhere .

NEW MEDICAL EVIDENCE A SHOCKER

Filed under: General — Rick Moran @ 7:20 pm

Code Blue Blog is considered to be one of the best medical blogs around. A finalist for Best Medical Blog as well as a winner of the Best Clinical Sciences Blog, Dr. Boyle has almost 20 years of experience in the medical field.

And that’s why the conclusion he reached after examining Terri Schiavo’s medical records is so startling:

Terri WAS HIT ON THE HEAD OR DROPPED ON HER HEAD DURING LATER FEBRUARY OR EARLY MARCH WHILE IN THAT HOSPITAL.

The Doctor reaches this conclusion based on the following:

1. IF this is an accurate report (normal CT brain on 2/27 — injury on 2/25) then TERRI DID NOT suffer an event of massive ischemia on 2/25. tHERE IS NO RADIOLOGIST OR NEUROLOGIST OR NEUROSURGEON IN THE WORLD THAT WOULD DISPUTE THIS. it is impossible. tHE ct ON 2/27 WOULD HAVE BEEN grossly ABNORMAL.

2. IF TERRI DID NOT SUFFER ANOXIC DAMAGE ON 2/25 THEN THE REASON FOR HER BRAIN ATROPHY WAS CAUSED BY SOMETHING THAT OCCURRED after 2/25 namely in the hospital during February or march of 1990.

3. How does one develop NONCOMMUNICATING HYDROCEPHALUS in ONE MONTH? By a blood clot obstructing the CSF outflow from the brain at the Foramen of Magendie.

4. How does one get #3.

BY BEING HIT ON THE HEAD AND SUFFERING INTRACRANIAL HEMORRHAGE

The medical evidence is clear. Terri had a normal brain scan up to 2 days after the event. Doctor Boyle points this out:

There is categorically and absolutely NO WAY Terri could have suffered MASSIVE ANOXIC INJURY TO THE BRAIN ON 2/25 AND HAVE NORMAL CT SCAN ON 2/27

NO WAY

Read the whole post…and check out two other interesting posts on Terri’s condition that call into question much of the conventional wisdom being put out there by the MSM.

AS SHE LAY DYING

Filed under: General — Rick Moran @ 6:43 am

And her mother hugged her and she began to cry. Her mother, as she had done ten thousand times in their 41 years together hugged her daughter harder and whispered words of love and comfort. That’s what mothers do. Its their job. Its what they do best. Except this time, the words of comfort were empty and devoid of meaning.

How do you comfort a child who is dying?

What can you say to ease their pain? Words are not only inadequate, they’re superfluous. Words at a time like this are an insult to the soul of the soon to be departed. So she hugs her daughter tightly, silently railing against the inability of her words to have the desired effect of easing the passage of her child who, balanced now on the edge of life and death, will soon drift away into the great and glorious unknowable.

She doesn’t want to let go. Perhaps a rush of memory causes her eyes to mist over as she recalls her daughter’s first steps, her first communion (her last communion being inexplicably denied her by a lawyer who sees a human being starving to death as “peaceful” and “comfortable”), her first date. Perhaps she sees the beautiful young woman smiling as she walked down the aisle at her wedding or the more mature, pensive adult who, until her heart stopped mysteriously that horrible day, was a friend, a confidante, a blessing.

She looks into her daughter’s eyes and sees…what? Does she see recognition, a spark of human awareness, a flicker of life? She says she does. She’s got 41 years of experience looking into those eyes. She knows what she sees. Why won’t anyone listen to her?

The doctors, the medical gods with all of their instruments, and charts, and diagnoses, have looked at her daughter and walked away shaking their heads. She’s gone, they tell her, let her go.

The doctors mean well. They’ve been, for the most part, kind and considerate of her feelings. She knows that their years of training and experience have given them the expertise to treat her daughter’s body.

But they don’t know her daughter. Were they there when she fell off her bike and needed the special care that only a mother could give; care that no doctor, no medicine, no balm could possibly duplicate? Were they there when she lost her first love and needed to be in that special hollow between a mother’s breast and shoulder where all troubles, all pain seems to vanish as if a fairy waved a magic wand and made the world right again?

She sees her daughter’s sunken eyes. She hears the labored breathing and knows it won’t be long now. The day, the hour, the moment is approaching when whatever germ of humanity was left in her daughter will soon be gone and all she’ll have left is memory. She tries to push this out of her mind but still, it intrudes on her thoughts and jars her senses as she realizes a great part of her life-being a mother to a daughter-will soon be at an end.

Does she hug her daughter tighter at the thought? Is she bereft of hope that her own life will have meaning and purpose? Surely she has a loving husband and son who will do their best to comfort and console her through her grief. But do even they understand the hole in her soul her daughter’s death will leave?

She doesn’t care about courts and judges and such anymore. She doesn’t listen as politicians pontificate and others who care less about her daughter than they do their own personal and political agendas scream at each other and accuse each other and rant against each other in an inexplicable spectacle of emotion tinged with fear and hatred. She doesn’t hear it. She doesn’t care. She doesn’t want to think about that now.

All she wants to do is hold her crying daughter and tell her there, there, it will be alright. Soon you’ll be with Him. Soon the glorious light of eternal mind will wrap you in its arms and you will know the indescribable and wondrous feeling of eternal peace. And you will be comforted.

And her mother hugged her and she stopped crying.

DANGEROUS CRIMINAL IN CUSTODY!

Filed under: General — Rick Moran @ 6:39 pm

Mr. and Mrs America are breathing much easier tonight as police in Pinellas Park, Florida made a hugely significant arrest in the ongoing plot to subvert the constitution, overturn the rule of law, violate the separation of powers, and-horror of horrors-give water to a thirsty woman.

Omigod…what is this country coming to. A woman can’t even starve to death in peace without all these people running amuck, breaking the law, and violating the judicial fiats of a euthanasia loving, black robed activist who sits on the board of directors of the very hospice that this extremely dangerous criminal tried to trespass.

Here’s a picture of this dangerous threat to American liberty:

Note to Pinella County Sheriff’s Department: ARE YOU GUYS BLEEPING NUTS? A ten year old kid? IN HANDCUFFS?????

For most competent police departments, when a demonstration takes place as the one currently underway outside the hospice, it’s customary to have the plastic tie-on restraints rather than real, honest to goodness police handcuffs. Here’s a link to a photo showing this dastardly criminal in irons.

Is this the same police department that Nurse Iyer brought her complaints about Michael to? Ya think?

Note to AP: I thought it was customary to protect the identity of minors by not releasing their names when arrested. Well…he’s only a Christian, right? Maybe you thought you were just protecting the rest of us from his radical notion of “loving thy neighbor” or maybe it was “when I was thirsty, did you bring me drink?”

And what did this threat to our way of life have to say for himself to justify his unwarranted, extra legal conduct?

”I don’t want her to die,” Joshua Heldreth, 10, from North Carolina, said before his arrest. ”I’m not afraid because God is with me.”

JUDGE WASHES HIS HANDS OF TERRI’S CASE

Filed under: General — Rick Moran @ 8:19 am

U.S. District Judge James Whittmore has, like Pontious Pilate, washed his hands of Terri’s case letting stand the Florida State Court’s decision to remove her feeding tube:

A federal judge in Tampa early this morning denied a request from the parents of Terri Schiavo to reinsert a feeding tube into the brain damaged woman.

U.S. District Judge James Whittemore wrote that Terri Schiavo’s “life and liberty interests” had been protected by Florida courts, the Associated Press reported. Despite “these difficult and time strained circumstances,” he wrote, “this court is constrained to apply the law to the issues before it.”

The next stop in this excrutiating process is the 11th Court of Appeals. Since Whittmore ruled that the Schindler’s case has little chance of winning on its merits, the prospects in the Appeals Court are very slim.

And since these lower federal courts refused to hear the case, it’s extremely doubtful that the Supreme Court would do anything to stop what is now a tragic near certainty; the slow and painful death of an American citizen at the hands of the judiciary.
