THE BATTLE OF GREASY GRASS CREEK
I am sure that you have seen the episode of "Battlefield Detectives" that examined the archaeological evidence left behind. In case you haven't, they took advantage of a recent fire that removed the grass cover and inspected the battlefield.
Their conclusion was that there was no "last stand" as such, that there were probably three running battles involving units of Custer's command. Basically, the forensic evidence indicated that the Indians had a large number of rifles, including repeating rifles, and that the entire fight was basically a tactical slaughter, as the small groups were overwhelmed one by one. The main evidence against any last stand was a lack on concentrated cartridges from the American rifles in any spot.
Custer was known to be reckless even in the Civil War engagements in which he acquitted himself well. It's not surprising that he fell victim to a well-planned and executed ambush.

ZARQAWI DEAD: INSURGENCY LIVES
Looks like it was an informant. Speculating on the motives could lead us to either a lessening insurgency (seeking a political solution) or one with an Iraqi at the head of the so-called Al Qaeda network in Iraq. Much is to be determined.

TALKING TO IRAN A NECESSARY EVIL
All this will do is give the rest of the world a chance to blame us if and when the shit hits the fan. All the fruitlessness and humiliation of the EU's negotiations will be forgotten. Just like the current situation in Iraq, where we are blamed for all ills by simply being present, whatever "catastrophes" that occur will be laid squarely at our feet. The rest of the world will bask in their self-righteousness that the U.S. failed at diplomacy and fell back on the only tool we have, the hammer.
Get used to this, because that's the way it's going to be for quite a while. No matter what the crisis, no matter who gets involved, the United States will get all of the blame possible, and none of the credit.

If only the rest of the show had been written as tightly and coherently as the finale. Just a taste of what could have been. Here's hoping that next year they actually write the whole story arc ahead of time instead of making it up as they go.
