Wow! What obvious hatred for Republicans in these comments. I breathe a sigh of relief that I'm not one. However, I'm not a Democrat, either. All this Republican bashing does no good in solving the problems at hand. We are in big trouble. When Bush signed off on Medicare Part D my first question was how are we going to pay for it? Prescriptions are enormously expensive and Congress just decided to put the burden on the American people. Buy now, pay later mentality, it just continues, except now it is exponentially greater. The spending by our gov't is close to treasonous in my opinion. It is time for drastic action to shrink our government. I like Ryan's idea. It needs to be decifered, analyzed, and taken apart to see if it would work. But, there's other ideas to be considered, such as the benefits paid to federal employees. They are out of line with private industry. Also, an audit of each branch of gov't needs to be done to analyze where waste can be slashed. I'm sure there are many ways we can make our gov't leaner and more effective if we could just get rid of these corrupt politicians and find people with integrity, who care about this country and it's people.

THINKING IMPURE THOUGHTS IS MORE THAN A MORTAL SIN IF YOU'RE A REPUBLICAN
How do the Republican propose to have smaller deficits and lower taxes (#1), and pay for the troop surges in Iraq & Afghanistan (#6)? Curiously, those seem to be in conflict with each other.

SUPERBLY OBLIVIOUS TO HIS OWN IDIOCY
I somewhat agree that Andrew has gone a bit around the bend, but part of what pointed the trail for him are these facts:
-There are photos of Palin a month before giving birth with no obvious baby bump.
-Palin kept her pregnancy a secret from her staff, friends, and the citizens of Alaska until she was in her 7th month. People who worked with her day-in and day-out say they had no clue she was expecting.
-Palin's birth story is that she was attending a conference in TX when her water broke. Instead of going immediately to a hospital, knowing that she was delivery a special needs infant, she went ahead and gave the keynote speech at the conference as planned, then boarded a plane and traveled 12 hours back to Alaska so she could give birth in Wasilla. (I believe that reiteration is also in the book....or something close to it.)

SHOULD THE GOP HELP THE DEMOCRATS GOVERN?
Tort Reform - the vast majority of medical malpractice lawsuits are filed in state courts, not federal courts. Federal law included in the health insurance reform legislation would not be applicable to most medical lawsuits.

THE HOPELESS BANALITY OF THE BLOGOSPHERE
Thank you for a completely rational, sane, measured, and clear-minded post. It's one of the few out on the blogs.
And, heartfelt sympathies to the families of the victims, and to the larger Fort Hood community. They should be our first concern.

IMPRESSIVE TURNOUT IN DC FOR PROTEST
Hey...I would have believed this mess and tea party sh$$ if it had happened in 2000 or 2001. But, after entering into two wars, hiding and reading my pet goose, giving tax breaks to the weathy, spending our money on foreign countries, the gas going up, not admitting we're in a recession, Katrina, wire-tapes,and leaks to the media, I just realized you guys were too dumb to see it then. Perhaps the former Prez needed to just tan a little darker (and yes I pulled the card and I drink the so-called fruit punch). Your point is not even taken seriously. And "tea-party" protest? Do you even know the history? Who were they dressed up as? The same groups of people you don't want to have health-care because you scared they would live longer and populate. And another thing, some of you guys complaining is so stupid because your conservative congressman/congresswoman has better healthcare than yourself. And they're trying to keep it from you. You know you can't afford a life-threatening situation. Stupid. Stop pretending it's not a Sarah Pagan Klux meeting in the daytime!

You want social security, welfare, food-stamps, medicare, and medicaid from the government? But, you don't want health insurance? Refuse all of it. Please! Maybe then we can start saving and would not have to worry about those who drink too much tea with Glenn-Fatso, Sarah Pagan, Hannity-Weirdness.

Wonder how many millions turned out when you include the rallies in each state? I say let them continue to under report the actual numbers of Americans rising in opposition.... lulls them into a false sense of security.

If Obama wins WI/HI, the upcoming debates will be Hillary's last chance to turn the tide. However, Obama's debate performances have improved, and he's no fool - he KNOWS she will come to the next debate ready to FIGHT and throw mud (Her WI attack ads have given him a preview).
This won't be pretty.

Mr. Moran:
Quite a tribute when the NYT recognizes your work and that of Kevin at Wizbang and the good Captain.
