DEMOCRACY SERVED…MEDIUM RARE

Filed under: General — Rick Moran @ 7:28 am

Last night, I wrote in my post debate that Bush was the clear winner. I suppose my partisanship (there IS a reason we call this blog Right Wingnuthouse) colors my opinion to some extent. And there’s really no objective criteria to use when grading the candidates on their performance.

But, holy God! For Terry McAuliffe to say that Senator Flip Flop won because George Bush referred to the “internet(s)” or confused Flip Flop with Senator Ted “Kill’er” Kennedy, or because Bush got mad at that leftist toad Charlie Gibson is like taking one of the most serious moments in political history and turning it into a wet T shirt contest.

“Well, I thought her presentation was okay, but what about that nipple ring?”

“I liked her dancing, but I’m a leg man myself.”

Well, you get the idea.

The CW on this one is predictable. The Washington Post called it a draw while the Washington Times gave Bush a clear win. The New York Times…I’ll give you three guesses and…oh forget it.

Here’s a round-up from some of my favorite pajamahadeen:

Crushkerry thought Flip Flop looked dazed and confused.

Kerryhaters thought Bush won but that Flip Flop didn’t hurt himself.

Blogs of War thinks that Bush should try out for the WWF.

Glen at Instapundit thinks that Bush wins the comeback prize AND the momentum. (I agree. Bush should be back up by 5-7 points by next debate)

The Guys at Powerline are in general agreement. Deacon thinks Bush won going away while Hindrocket thinks Bush by a smidge. (Hindrocket agrees with my assessment of Flip Flop as a demogogue along the lines of Huey Long).

Allah (God be praised) has his usual excellent round up.

Lorie at Polipundit said that Bush’s performance reminded her “why she follows him.” (Ditto for me).

Kevin at Wizbang says that Flip-Flop was a victim of “high expectations.”

Bill at INDC said Bush started weak, finished strong.

The Commissar thought that “Bush connected with ordinary people,” Flip Flop connected with economists.

And finally, Truth Laid Bear says “it was Bush’s room, Kerry was just visiting.

All’s well that ends well.

Note: PM Howard was just reelected in Australia. GREAT NEWS! Thanks to Wizbang for the link.

UPDATE:

One of the main bones of contention between the European Union and Israel has been the wall built by the Israelis to protect themselves from the homicidal attacks of Palestinians. You would think that since homicide attacks against innocent Israelis is way down since the wall’s construction, that this would be a cause for celebration everywhere that civilization has even a tiny toehold.

Not so for the EU.

The EU representative to the middle east, while recognizing that the wall has done its job in dramatically reducing the number of attacks, says that this fact is “not necessarily a good thing.”

(Superhawk sighs) I guess civilization has a ways to go yet.

UPDATE:

Interview with the Democratic Nominee for President of the United States…

RWNH Senator, now that Moqtada al-Sadr has agreed to lay down his arms and participate in the upcoming elections in January and a Sunni delegation from Fallujah have indicated a desire for Iraqi National Guardsmen to enter that city, what does that do to your contention that the war in Iraq is going badly?

Flip Flop I have always maintained that we would be successful in Iraq under President Bush…I’ve never wavered from that position…I’ve never wavered from anything in my life.

RWNH But Senator, didn’t you say in last night’s debate that the war in Iraq was a failure and that President Bush made a colossal misjudgement in sending troops there?

Flip Flop Now here’s an example of the Bush administration twisting my words. I’ve consistently maintained that I could do a better job in Iraq…that I could win the war there…that what we need is strong leadership…that…

RWNH: OH SHUT YOUR GOB!

ALL HAIL THE COMMISSAR for the link.
