A “BLOG” KIND OF DAY

Filed under: General — Rick Moran @ 6:07 pm

Light day today…I’m working on a long article on the transformational nature of the Bush presidency. Norman Podhoretz wrote a magnificent essay in the September issue of “Commentary” magazine that touched on this and I wanted to write something for submission to either American Spectator or NRO. What started as about 1500 words is already at 3000 and looks like it will end up being about 5000 before its over.

Around and About:

DJ at Polipundit has an electoral and popular vote contest going on. Are you a good political prognosticator? Do you have “pundit” in the title of your blog? Maybe you’ve got some gypsy blood in you and have the gift of “second sight.” Do you feel lucky?

Here are some resources to help you out:

Realclear Politics is an indispensible resource. If you’re not going there at least once a day to read the editorial roundup and glance at the polls you’re not as well informed as you should be.

Rasmussen Reports Real inside politics stuff. Numbers tell the story.!

Frontpage Magazine gives serious treatment to serious issues. Must read on the Middle East and Israel.

Need a break? For gut busting humor, there’s nothing like reading Scrappleface. Another funny site is Blamebush (it’s not what you think!)

Finally, the National Institute for Discovery Science is great for a relaxing voyage into the fantasyland of the paranormal and UFO’s. There are some very interesting and serious articles about first contact with an extraterristial civilization along with some pure nonsense. You’ll like it all.

UPDATE:

Mark Steyn is one of the more thoughtful columnists in the world. Yesterday, the “Daily Telegraph” of London pulled his article on the beheading of Ken Bigley, the British hostage, ostensibly because it wasn’t “sensitive” enough. It is in fact, a bracing reminder that we’re at war and should start acting like it. Here’s the article, linked through Wizbang.

Also, the Belmont Club has an excellent perspective on this with a link to a Roger Simon piece called “Lonely are the Brave.” Simon is a gem. He always makes you think. I think it’s a gift to be able to make people see something beyond the horizon.
