GIULIANI’S 9/11 TRAP

Filed under: PJ Media — Rick Moran @ 6:24 am

My latest article for PJ Media is up and it should generate a little controversy.

Rudy Giuliani has made his actions on 9/11 the centerpiece of his campaign for the presidency - if not outwardly then certainly by implication. And there is no doubt that his performance that day was magnificent - for the most part.

But what he did prior to 9/11 and after may prove a little more problematic for Rudy:

“Questions that were arguably glossed over by the 9/11 Commission, about the communications snafus that led to so many firefighters losing their lives, as well as a perceived lack of compassion for workers cleaning up Ground Zero will dog his campaign and actually be used against him by his opponents… Instead of a positive, 9/11 could end up as a millstone around his neck, dragging him down to defeat.”

  2. Hi Rick.
C’mon this is the NYT, and they’ve hated Rudy Giuliani since the first time he ran for governor.

As to the specifics…9/11 was pretty much unimaginable at all levels, from the Bush Administration on down.I don’t fault anyone for mistakes and snafus that happened on that day or in the months preceding, because it was a surprise attack that few people expected no matter what the CYA rhetoric is.

Now, if we’re talking 5 plus years later…when our borders are still not secure and ihad mosques and madrassahs are rife here in America, that’s very different.

    Regards,

  3. Please…Rudi would not even be running if he had not been the 911 mayor, and would not have the support he does only for that reason. Many will vote for him out of nothing but pure sentiment because of 911…doing a good job during a major emergency situation does not mean you are Presidential material, maybe fireman or cop or EMT

  4. True or false, there is definitely swiftboat potential here if not for Rudy’s competitors, definitely the Democrats.

Portraying Rudy as a fascist monster will work in Rudy’s favor– people want someone who will kick ass. But if Giuliani gets painted as an incompetent, he’s toast, especially against a vicious opponent like Hillary.

  5. Rudy’s main action, and the one that made him, was finding every TV camera and speaking at it. This was somsething he had been doing all his professional life. This time the public was starved for information and the Federal Leaders were still in hiding. Rudy had a national spotlight for several days all to himself. Voters can save themselves and the country anguish by looking at Rudy before and after 9/11. “Google” Rudy and enjoy a great soap opera.
